Saddam Hussein was sentenced to death by hanging for the murder of 148 people. At the trial they had witnesses, including women, have recounted being tortured while in prison, farmlands were razed in retaliation and 148 Shiites were sentenced to death in connection to the shooting attack on Saddam. All 148 were killed, either dying under interrogation or executed. Although I do think Saddam should recieve the death penalty for his crimes death by hanging seems so medieval.
I do not believe that our world should go by the ideal of "an eye for an eye." Saddam did torture those people but torturing him by hanging him will not help those who are already dead. Society must stand above the ways of Saddam and give him a peaceful death. To lower societies standards to Saddams ideals of torture just lets people like Saddam live on thinking that what they do is right. Saddam thought he was killing all of those people for attempting to kill him. He deemed it right to kill them by torturing them. The same is being done here.
Saddam does not deserve to live but he should not be tortured either.
Are we really sure that death by injection (that's what you meant by "peaceful" death, right?) isn't worse than death by hanging? We just recently had a supreme court case in which a death row inmate claimed that lethal injections cause needless pain and asked for a "more humane" method of execution.
Hanging does seem really out of place for this day and age, but I wouldn't say it's actually torture...

Hanging and slowly sufficating to death is pretty much torture and much more painful than lethal injection.
Who cares whether or not he is in pain! He made hundreds of people suffer for NO reason at all!! He raped a woman and put her in a cage with his dogs and let her get eaten alive! He had no remorse!! He'll only choke for a few minutes then he won't feel anything! Putting out of his pittiful misery will help him. I'd rather him be REALLY tortured...not this sissy hanging stuff!
That is why these people come about in the first place.

Hanging is hardly inhumaine. I think execution itself is too humaine for his sentencing.

I really hate to say this, but he is such an evil man that I don't see hanging him is all that bad. I read where he wanted to be shot to death because he was a military man-now that seems worse than hanging?

I wouldn't really call hanging torture. When done right the neck instantly snaps.
He is being charged for the death of those 148 because those are the ones that can be solely proven enough for the death penalty... He's killed and tortured more than that.
There probably is much more he killed and tortured. What I don't get is why go back to medieval ways of killing people.
In the bible they killed people a lot ofpainful ways and as far as I know, if they wer bad people, God didnt have a problem with it.

sorry, but give me a break. He raped, murdered, and tortured way to many. He was found guilty on all charges and needs to pay for his crimes. If the courts found that hanging is the way, then hanging is the way. The bible states: an eye for an eye! Well then do it. You may not like my views but what would you reccommend for his death if it was your mother, father, brother, sister, or child. Remember one thing... when his verdict was read, his own police force, military and fellow countrymen...CHEERED!!! They approve of it...why can't you??
Saddam Husein should at least have been shot, becaus ethat way he woudl keep his dignity!
