I was going to make a comment but i just decided to copy and past into a blog.
the original post was Weed... the new thing?. the girl was conserned about the apparent rising amount of students in lower classmen levels of highschool currently using. I would go more in depth and revise my post to make more sense but I am at work and i think if i dont sign off quickly i will probably get fired for not doing anything as of yet. so if you'd like read the Weed..the new thing? post or just enjoy my rant about marijuana.
Weed... the new thing?
You have missed it entirely. How many of you that have commented on this have done any actuall research on the topic. I myself have done quite a bit of dabbling in drugs and yes they are all bad. I must say weed is definatly the least of your worries. Marijuana has a much worse reputation than it deserves and there are quite a few misconceptions as to the damaging effects of marijuana. As a former user I will tell you the no-bull side of marijuana.
In itself, marijuana is actually a very helpful herb. It causes people to be hungry, something that really helps cancer patients. It creates a pacifist attitude that, when applied to the whole, can be a good thing. The problem with weed is it is a replacment for life. Weed makes you okay with just sitting around doing nothing.
Students and young people will spend their day comming up with money to buy it then sit and smoke it untill they pass out or run out and the next day they will do the same thing. Weed makes you feel like everthing is going to be alright, you know that saying "good things come to those who wait." That's the subconsious stoner code. It's as if they feel that if they just sit around and smoke pot then all will work itself out.
It works, so far as they care. They manage to get enough money everyday to get high enough every day to keep them in this loop. And this is just one problem with weed. Next is the gateway drug theroy. Look, smoking pot is not going to make you do other drugs. The problem is when you meet new pot smokers and dealers, and if you smoke pot you will, there is a good chance they use some other sort of drug to. When you hear about the differnt stories they have and the things they've done you want to try it so you can have stories to, hence the gateway. But just because someone smokes pot doesn't mean they are going to use other drugs.
Marijuana is also used by other harder drug users as a medium for lessening the pain of withdrawls, so you could say its like the patch of the drug world. And just because most people who do harder drugs also smoke pot does not make it a gateway. I've not done any sort of poll but I bet if you did most all users of any sort of drug would also smoke cigarettes, and I bet you would find more peole using "harder" drugs than pot would be more likely to smoke than marijuana users.
I know the point your making is a good one. when I started using I was 14 and I messed up my whole underclassman years. I attended highschool for four and three-quarter school years because of my mistakes concerning skipping and lack of motivation, most of which can be directly linked to my using it is a terrible thing that so many young people do it and I wish there were a way to regulate it that would be effective.
Unfortunatly, the only way to prevent use is to educate on the real harm drugs can do. Lets not scare our children and sisters and brothers by some far off unrealistic diseases( and I mean unrealistic to these young ones) and really talk to them about the immediate effects and the real consequences for their actions not by the law or the eventual damage to their health, but the way their decisions are effected on a daily basis by just chooseing pot over school.
I mean pot is always going to be there, and no, to answer the main question you asked weed is not the new thing. Marijuana has been around since before our fore fathers sat around a pipe and hammered out the constitution(jk). Students should know that they have their entire lives to try new things, but this point in their lives is about learning all the things there are to try. we havn't developed enough of a life yet to actually handle being under the influence, it can get to the point where youger people assume that older people just think inebriation is life, and maybe some do.
Maybe these reckless adults you hear about are just reckless teens that have refused to grow into respectable adults believeing that everyone just chooses a differn't form of inebriation for their life style. I dont know, I grew up with amazing parents and they taught me that there is way to much in life to give up looking for whatever makes you the most happy just because you cant see what it is yet. You never know when that perfect job is going to come your way, what you'll be doing when your true love walks through the door for the first time. You dont know where you'll be when your wife calls you to tell you she's in labor, but you'd better make sure it's doing the right thing.
All said and done pot is a choice, and one that no amount of pressure one way or anothercan be responsible for. When it comes don to it some people want to try pot and some dont. The only way to help young people to stop smoking is by either helping them decide to be one of the people who dont smoke pot, though that doesn't seemed to have worked so far. Or maybe we could try to actually talk to them and try to convince them to wait to make that desicion untill there stable enough to handle that kind of obligation.

MAKE MARIJUANA LEGAL, MAKE MARIJUANA LEGAL!
To tell you the truth, the only reason it's illegal is because the government can't make money off of it. It's not because it's a dangerous drug, because really it's not. (Speaking from experience.) I know of NO ONE ever overdosing on weed. All it does is gets you high, makes you lazy, and gives you the munchies. And also, it can be prescribed as medicine if you're bi polar or have glacouma. I could understand if the effects of it were like Meth, Crack, PCP, etc. But it doesn't have that effect. Alcohol is more deadly than marijuana.
You sound like me three years ago. Look first off if they made it legal then think about all the dealers that would be out of a job.
It's a new day when someone says a hustling/dealing is a job.
But at the same time, you can't say that there is no truth to my statement.
So you say:
Which, in a sense can be true. However, marijuana can be dangerous due to the toxins in the smoke. Even though marijuana gives a relaxed, euphoric high, there are underlying problems that it can cause that one may be unaware of. Marijuana can disrupt memory, and cause severe lung damage. It also acts as a mild hallucinogen. If someone is anxious or depressed doing marijuana may amplify those feelings. The use of it may lead to other addictions to, say, cocaine, or heroin (which are more addictive than marijuana) because it changes brain chemistry (which may make one more susceptible to cocaine and heroin addiction.)
Many people want to see marijuana legalized, some argue that it can be used as medicine. There are other ways of treating a patient going through chemotherapy, or those that have glaucoma, etc.. The Institute of Medicine recommends delivering THC- the main ingredient of marijuana with a medical inhaler, that would cut out the the toxicity because their not smoking it.

All of those "side-effects" you listed is B.S. When I tell you I speak from experience, I AM. And I know people who were/are heavy weed-smokers and have showed none of the side effects other than the simple ones that I listed myself. Like I said, the only reason it's not legal is because the government can't make money off of it. I've never heard of anyone, on the news or in my life, dying fron marijuana. The only news I hear involving marijuana is folks getting arrested for having it in their possession.
All of those "side-effects" I listed are fact, they may vary person to person but they are fact. I said marijuana can disrupt memory, and cause severe lung damage. You can't necessarily see those signs. Smoking marijuana can be dangerous to one's health...because of the toxins in the smoke.
Well I didn't say that people die directly from marijuana use. It can cause accidents while someone is intoxicated, which can lead to death though.

" It can cause accidents while someone is intoxicated, which can lead to death though. "
Where's the proof of that? You can't tell me the effects of marijuana has had the same effects as alcohol. Even to the event that an accident would happen.
Where's the evidence that weed causes lung cancer? Or that you will more than likely get lung cancer from weed rather than tobacco?
Lung damage =/= lung cancer, necessarily. There are plenty of other things that can go wrong with your lungs. Look at emphysema.

That weed was the cause of it.

I was merely pointing out that damage =/= cancer. That is the only claim I am making, not that MJ causes anything, or that it's more dangerous than cigarette smoke, or even that cigarettes are worse. Just that YOU cannot say damage=cancer.

It's kind of odd that I have to repeat myself when what I said is plainly in sight..

I agree with you. There are a lot of medicinal applications, and weed overdose doesn't exist.
The gateway drug argument is an issue, and there is a huge correlation there.

I agree with Locke ,
"Marijuana has a much worse reputation than it deserves and there are quite a few misconceptions as to the damaging effects of marijuana.

I'm 26 yrs old, and I' ve been smoking weed since I was 15, "everyday straight" I probably can count on my finger and toes how many days I miss throught all those years. I'm High Now;) I knew you probably thinking I'm some pop head loser with no job, living with mom's or something in the nature. Actually I am a Graphic Designer and a Webmaster. NOW. where do weed come in at. Many years my life had been very confused because of weed. It made me feel good as of if I was in another world but still made bad choices.
Marijuana is a powerful but not harmful drug. Alcohol is more damages then Marijuana. Alcohol makes you argue and want to fight. ALCOHOL CAN MAKE YOU KILL SOMEONE IF YOU ARE MADE ENOUGHT. Weed Don't.
Now the reality of Marijuana powers if you not a buddha Abuser.lol.
Marijuana can open door and also close door if you don't use it the right way. NOTE: This is only if you smoke weed. If you don't smoke weed. DON'T.
Now back the bud head..lol. I tried many of time to stop smoking but it's is very hard,
but I started realizing Marijuana power when I started reading and studying a lot. It was my gateway. I uses to hang on the block with my friends and get high all the time intil I realize and started looking at the people that was older than me doing nothing but they was very smart in different thing and alway manage to get enoght money to get by but couldn't focus or couldn't past a drug test to be able to apply there knowledge.
Marijuana opens another gateway in your life to want to know more about life. Basically speaking, when you smoke, your mind starts to wonder. Your Brain is in overdrive. The body is at a carm stage, but your heart is beating fast but soft pace. Now you are relaxed.
Knowledge is wizdom and the key to your future. My experience, I am a Senior Developer and Graphic Flash designer at my job. I stay very clean and I smoke weed everyday before work. The way I manage is staying ahead of my problems. Just like Locke said' It makes you feel like everything is going to be ok. No Worries here.
So I study extra hard to make up the fact that I'm a bud head..lol. Marijuana makes my mind deliver very created ideas for my company to make profit off of. I just started a new job on Monday 70k salary. I was happy when I got the job and realized Marijuana and God help me to delivery a product the couldn't be refused. I never went to college but but thinking about going to really boast my career to 6 figures. Yes I think I will.lol
I never thought about a career is what I was doing home sitting down on the computer all day smoking weed. I was designing websites and a little home recording studio for friends just to buy weed and clothes.
I realize that I tranformed my life. I know if I stop smoking weed I will be more successful. But it's hard. The sad part is that I feel like I will lose my created mind if I stop smoking. I will one day. Marijuana just make me imagine more in life so I go hard to get it.
Most importantly Marijuana makes me see life is fu_k up and the government dont care about people. You see it, I see it, it's plain in simple all in your face since 2001. I see beyond the facts and what they want you to know. What they feed your brain. It's all about money. Money Money Money. The root of evil. We all need it and can't live with it and they know it. Churches and Religion need money to gain more power. I believe in god but it's my personal god like everybody have, You Are God In Soul. Everybody has power but you need to be in touch with your soul... Marijuana is from the earth and been here before any other drug made by man. Be honest most medicine or made by Methamphetamine "cocaine bits" lol..
http://www.drugfree.org/Portal/drug_guide/Methamphetamine_Pills
We need doctors in life but come on we all know doctors are the real drug dealer and the government is the real American Gangsters..
Marijuana open my mind to realize that. That probably why it's not legal. Hinded Source of nature.
Lol.. I'm going to bed, my Case Is Closed. If any words or misspelled or bad grammer sorry, I' m tired and I'm feeling good :) right now "I Dont Like To Use The Word HIGH" sound like you on crack or something...

"It's all about money. Money Money Money. The root of evil."
- the love of money is the root of evil. We need money to do things in this world. It can be a good thing, depending on what you use it for.
i.e. not weed
-Amanda-
I wouldn't say that spending money on weed is "evil." Definatly a bad choice but not evil.
exactly. that's what I'm saying.
-Amanda-
Well, I'd hate to set everyone straight, but money isn't actually a necessity. It's not required for a society to function. Money exists as a middle-man to facilitate the exchange of goods and services. Bartering directly is perfectly adequate. Money came into existence because there was no way to maintain an up-to-date listing (exchange) of the values of said goods and services. The internet definitely changes that.
But, whatever the case, marijuana should be legal. And getting high can be helpful.
I think that since it is now so intergrated into scociety that it can finally be considered a necessity.
Last time I checked, cancer was pretty engrained... so let's just call it a necessity.
The king was also a pretty big deal back when monarchies were all the rage... and he'd certainly view himself as a necessity.
Racism has been around for a while, and it boasts many practitioners, so let's just say it's necessary to a functioning society as well.
That is a little rash but have it your way. We could go through major scocial and economic changes to make money unnessicary.
It'll make sense to do before long... especially when the world switches to one currency.
That would be wonderful. I've always admired the barter system, I think that with the stock market, housing system and electronic goods we would have a hard time of deciding on a fair value. I guess we would just have to become better negotiators.
That's the beauty of the internet. Money worked because there was simply no way to have real-time prices in a common location which could easily be referenced.
Now it's easy to know that in Arizona the going price for a USB webcam is 1/2 a goat and 4 eggs. No eggs? No problem, 2 eggs is equal to 1 pair of socks. Here's your webcam.
