First of all parking at CSM is by the far the worst I have ever seen. The only way that you can find parking is by taking classes early in the morning, but you make get lucky on some days and find a good spot but most likely you will be parking in the boon docks. All of the parking at CSM is so far away from all of the buildings but i guess there is not much that can be done about that. The staff parking is pretty ridiculous too. Why do the teachers get the closest parking spots near the class buildings? Half of the time their parking lots are not even filled up. I know where I used to work the employees had to park far away so the customers could park close to the store. But i guess we the paying customers don't really matter. Im not saying the teachers shouldnt get to park close I just think that parking on campus should be open for everyone and there should be no staff parking lots.

You should try parking at the hospital here! There is one tiny patient lot, one little patient lot, and 2 almost non-existant visitor lots, 2 doctors lots, and the rest of the employees generally have to be bussed in from parking a mile away. This is the only children's hospital in the state. It's absolutely nuts. And handicap parking is even worse. There are very few spots and that's just sad. Trying to get a child with medical equipment, or a wheelchair, etc inside from a half a mile away is virtually impossible.
I don't think people pay much attention to parking when they are building these places. If they did, it wouldn't be as pathetic as it usually is at schools, hospitals, etc.
There is a crazy amount of parking at CSM. It might not be strategically placed possibly due to the fact that when this place was built it was not intended to have the student base that currently exists. Not to mention that this place is perched upon a hill. Most people don't seem to get much excercise anyway. Having to walk to class in the morning gets the blood flowing to your head. Plus, you gotta admit, this school has a great view, is surrounded by trees, and clean beyond belief. We go to a great community college, maybe a walk will help clear your mind enough to realize that we got it made.
I attend the University of Alabama, and believe me, parking is crazy here too. It's hardly worth it to drive to class because you will be late, either because of traffic or just trying to find a place to park. I live on campus and I walk everywhere. It takes just as long to walk across campus sometimes as it does to drive there! And we have plenty of parking lots that are for staff only. It infuriates me. We are the majority over teachers, but they just don't seem to get it.
At every college or university I've attended or taught at, student parking has been the farthest away. I guess it's nice not to have a huge parking lot or parking structure in the middle of campus, but I can see how much of a pain it is to park 5 miles away from class--especially when you're running late. How 'bout this: if you write a perfect essay, I'll let you borrow my parking pass for a week.....
