What I Can Tell By Looking at Your Icon (Picture)

truelife90's picture

Some of us have pictures as the icon on the right. Since most people have been telling me that looks matter these days, I decided to judge people plainly by their images.

First, those people who actually put up their real faces are confident about their appearance. They want people to read their blogs and remember their faces. Perhaps one day, you will bump into people here on the streets and say, "Hey you! You're from progressiveu! Muahaha." Some people have shots of their faces angle in an abnormal way, like me for example. It might be cool for them. Or they want just a part of their face to be in it because they are still not confident enough to show the full face. Lightings on the picture also symbolizes something. Sometimes it seems like you're hiding behind your own photo.

Second, those who have other pictures (such as cartoons, pets or nature) do not want other people to see their faces or they don't have a picture on the computer. Then again, I find some people who have these images...have their own faces on their myspace or something. I guess it's different because you're connected with most of your friends through myspace. Your friends already know what you look like so you don't have problem putting your pictures on myspace. But progressiveu is made up of strangers who do not know you and how you look like. Maybe you're taking this opportunity to have a new identity. It can also be a character that will represent yourself to the site community...in a comedic way. I'm thinking about Darth Vader, you? Oh, a people with nature scene, it might be a scene you feel most comfortable with. Then again, it might be that you couldn't find any great pictures but wanted to put something in.

Third, people who have no picture at all are just plain lazy. They don't believe in showing any image to represent themselves. They came here solely to blog but thinking about giving up half way because it's too much work.

I just realized I'm being very general about my assumptions. I'm not trying to offend anyone. I'm simply "judging a book by its cover." Is it only me or people these days judge you on your pictures too? I mean, myspace (I feel like picking on myspace today...sorry Tom) for example. Some people add you randomly based on how well you look. Why is that? Can you really tell a lot by the "looks"?

lol, interesting theory. But. I'm not sure how it holds as far as accuracy.

I change my picture whenever I get the inclination to whatever. Everything from the "I'm sorry Mr. Jones but your insurance does not pay for enemas. I'm going to have to slap the shit outta you" cartoon to art to pictures of my nephews to wedding pictures of me and hubby to the current image. I just like variety.

But I do agree about Myspace... which is why I adore them for allowing you to make a last name mandatory. I haven't had to turn down a perv or some random person I've never in my life met in ages. Schweet.

Haha, so you're like one of those people who doesn't like to look at the same painting over and over again. Would it imply that you like to keep up with new things that are popping up in the society...technology for example? It's probably not accurate, but I would like to see other people's responses. Some people might think I'm completely judgmental. I wonder who do not really think about these things what they look at a picture of a stranger. Somewhere in their mind, they're assuming something for sure. Even though they don't say it out loud.

I don't particularly like to look at the same painting over and over... unless I find it to be incredibly awesome (Jonathon Earl Bowser's work I could look at all day). But, I also don't much care to keep up with new shit either; don't have the time or desire really. I get bored easily so something really has to grab my attention and imagination and hold it. When it does, I can stick with it forever.

How funny, Someone just read this and did one of several things. First they thought, wow he is psychic, how does he do that? second, thought what a jerk I am not like that. and last but not least spit their drink all over the place laughing. I am still cleaning it up. Maybe you should post with no picture bro, and then you won’t have to apologize for throwing some humor out there that might offend someone. Oh I am not meaning to offend anybody so if you’re reading this and think I am talking about you, you are egotistical. lol

Haha, my myspace generates way more Amy sightings than this site has, but you never know.

What are the dangers of myspace? can people hack in to your private account?

I have a facebook account, and I put up pictures of myself on that all the time. But that's associated with my name. If people don't know my name, they can't randomly search for my picture and find it.

ProU is not associated (really) with my name. I mean, there are a few people on here (mostly moderators) that know my full name, but I'm just C, or mvenus929 to everyone else. So, instead of putting up a picture of myself, I put up a picture of my puppy. I say a lot of things on here that I'm not entirely sure I actually want associated with my name. Especially since I'm applying to get into a very professional career, and they know I'm on the site. I'm so active that if they looked hard enough, they could probably find me, especially since I'm one of the most active members on the site. But I like some semblance of anonymity, so for the time being, my puppy is all you get. Maybe next spring I'll put up a picture of myself :-)

You know.... I could never tell what your picture was. I thought it was you in cap and gown. Doesn't that sound awful? Not that I thought you were a dog... I just couldn't tell it was a dog. It's kind of dark!

Fallon is an idiot :)

Lol... yeah, it's my puppy. She's sitting in one of those lazy-boy chairs we got when my grandpa came out to visit us. There's a Christmas tree in the background, and my sister's comforter resting on the arm of the chair. She's also wearing a bandana.

And now my piture is the one with a puppy which you can not tell unless it is bigger. . Either way (big or small) it is still an awesome picture.

I really think mvenus929 really looks like her icon now... of course I am strange too.

Wow! I thought you were trippin when you said there's a puppy in your pic, heh.

Mvenus does really look like her pic, I think. It fits her personality. I see it and I think Mvenus.

Yeah, that puppy is a little scary...

I did model my avatar after myself, so I hope it represents me :)

The only reason I even put a picture up was because I figured it would help people recognize my comments when they were skimming. I did an image search for museums because that's where I want to work. But its just a random one.

I tried to change my icon and now it doesn't work anymore...oh well, there is a reason for that too...it'll be okay.

I was having the same problem for a while, but it worked when I tried it yesterday after they made the announcement. Try again, because it should work this time. :)
