Racism. The leading cause of hate crimes in
America. We claim that it’s only skin deep, but deep down inside, there’s a racist in all of us. Whether we want to admit it or not—there is.
In general, we tend to believe that the narrow-minded, low-morale fool is the only type of person that can have racist thoughts. Unfortunately, we’re included in that “group.” Aside from that, we also have a tendency to judge people by their sex, age, sexual orientation, religion, looks, even the way they walk. Now, we say to ourselves, “I’m not racist. I don’t go calling people wetbacks, Jesus freaks, or fags.” Yet, how is it that when we shake hands with “different” people we feel that we need to wash our own? Why is it that when someone cuts you off in the street you mutter derogatory comments under your breath?
In today’s culture, we have a tendency to refer to a certain part of town as the “rich side” or “ghetto.” Sometimes, people can’t afford good housing. Even if the “ghetto” does have bad people, there are some that aren’t. Some people are just unfortunate to not have good income. They are most likely decent people who want to better their life. Yet we look down upon them as if they were convicted felons. Felons that committed crimes unforgivable before the eyes of society and God. Why do we do this? Remember, we do this because they live in the “ghetto.”
Don’t ever think that you’re better than someone simply because of your moral standards, your color, your religion, or anything that you consider to be right. If you follow this mindset for the rest of your life, you’re bound to have a boring life that will never learn new things or meet new people. You’ll be living life day by day with nothing new to look forward to. We’re all racist. We always will be. Just don’t let it run your life. Free yourself.
