With all the diet crazes and bodily disorders we all need to know what we are eating. You only hear good things about fruit and the things they do for you. While I know a few benefits personally I have also found some great benefits and tips about fruit that I want to pass on to you!

Cherries: Cherries are my favorite fruit. Many people think cherries taste like the ones on your grocer’s shelves. But actually cherries are sweet but tart too. The darker the berry the sweeter the juice; Cherry prices are so expensive because there growing seasons are very short. I know that cherries contain Vitamin C, Vitamin A, “good acids”, and other things. Cherries can help fight dehydration, heart disease, and improve your metabolism and bodily functions.

Bananas: A banana is probably the cheapest fruit to buy period. They are produced all over the world year around. . .  Bananas provide healthy bowels, protection from strokes and ulcers, along with better blood pressure (http://www.weightlossforall.com/banana-benefits-lose-weight.htm). Bananas are also a great lose weight, revving the metabolism.

Strawberries: Strawberries are very popular; they are the only fruit that grows its’ seeds on the outside of the fruit. They don’t continue to ripen after they are pulled. Strawberries provide a lot of antioxidants to fight illness in the body. Strawberries have Vitamin C and potassium. Strawberries lose most if not all of their nutrition when they are frozen (http://chetday.com/benefitofstrawberry.htm).

Pineapples: Pineapples are eaten with many things, such as pizza, steak, fruit, etc. . . But the flavor of fresh pineapple is completely different can. I personally prefer can but I am sure they use some nutritional value. Pineapples also have a lot of Vitamin C, along with fiber and calcium. And just one cup of pineapple provides 73% of the daily recommended amount of manganese (http://www.oohoi.com/natural%20remedy/everyday_food/Benefits-of-Pineapple.htm). Pineapples are a great remedy for light colds.

Grapes: I have eaten many greats of all colors but did you know grapes can protect you from cancer and preserves your eyesight. They also have fiber, small amounts of vitamins and important minerals like potassium, calcium, manganese and iron (http://www.bellybytes.com/bytes/grapes.shtml).

Apples: “Eating an apple a day will keep the doctor away”; we have all heard it but it is very true. “Eating 2 apples a day will reduce your cholesterol level up to 10 % (http://www.oohoi.com/natural%20remedy/everyday_food/apple.htm). Don’t you just hate when your apple gets brown as soon as you cut it? Well a combination of lemon and water can slow the process down (thanks Grandma). Apples have very little Vitamin C (Cornell University), and make sure not to eat to many seems of an apple because they can be toxic if eaten in large quantities.

Now that you know about some of your favorite fruits maybe you can fight a problem or two with them.

Have an environmentally-friendly day!

it is currently black raspberry season. Our freezers are stocked full of quart-size bags of them(since we couldn't sell them all yet). Not to worry, they won't last long since they taste great! They are high in fiber and polyphenols that fight cancer. They are great chilled and served with sugar and cream. Or put some on top of your favorite cereal for a treat. Soon, the blackberries will be ripening too. They are my favorite. Last summer we canned 165 quarts of them alone not to mention the raspberries. They have more antioxidants and cancer-fighting properties than almost any other berry. I use the leaves to make healthy herbal tea infusions also and then dry the leaves in our food dehydrators and store them in glass jars to preserve them for winter infusions. Blackberry tea leaves infusion purifies the blood and gets rid of free-radicals that can cause cancer.
