Is America ready for a minority president?

Whether you vote for Hillary or Obama the question is not are they ready for the presidency but more importantly, is America ready for them?

What will it mean to a country that has confronted years of racial and gender bias, oppression, etc to have to acknowledge a minority in the highest office? How will the white supremacists and sexist institutions be able to maintain their positions? What will it mean to the Klan to keep convincing themselves that African Americans are inferior while still having to acknowledge that one is running the entire country? I wonder what its doing to their minds right now...they have to be going crazy!! There is no way to uphold those two beliefs...the presence of one automatically disputes the other

This election year is about challenging mindsets. Its about opening up stagnant minds to the reality that the "truths" listed in the declaration of independence ARE really self evident...all men and women are created equal. When those words were penned, the hypocrisy of those words made it seem like a contradiction..but now history is finally catching up to those words. Perhaps the "founding fathers" were a bit ahead of their time

I am so grateful to be alive during this time...this must be what my mother felt like in the 60s. Its amazing! We are witnessing history changing before our eyes. I never thought I would see this in my lifetime. I wonder what my grandmother thinks about this election...or yours.

Ask her how it feels to be able to vote for a woman...or a black man. When I went to the polls for Super Tuesday, I saw a pride in the eyes of an older black woman that I had never seen and after she cast her ballot she looked at me with tears in her eyes...

..and I cried
