Where does all the money come from for Obama's health plan?

Looking more into each issue that he discusses.

Issue:
Health Care

He wants quality, affordable and portable healthcare.
(I don't have a problem with that)

In the "Public Plan" He wants to make health care available to everyone.
He wants to set affordable premiums,co pays and deductables.
he will give those who cannot afford the plan, subsidies so they can get in on the "public plan"
(That's not bad either)

Then he wants to create the National Health insurance exchange. That's for people who don't want the public plan.
(okay)

Then there is the Employer contribution: "Employers that do not offer or make a meaningful contribution to the cost of quality health coverage for their employees will be REQUIRED to contribute a percentage of payroll toward the costs of the national plan. Small employers that meet certain revenue thresholds will be exempt."

(How does he expect companies to be able to do this without raising the cost of their product or service? This doesn't help the economy.)

Reduce the costs of catastrophic illnesses for employers and employees
this idea would reimburse employers for a portion of the costs they incur above a threshold if they guarantee such savings are used to reduce the cost of workers' premiums.

(Where does the money come from to do this and why only a portion of the costs reimbursed?)

Support disease management programs. Obama will require that providers that participate in the new public plan, Medicare or the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program (FEHBP) utilize proven disease management programs. This will improve quality of care, give doctors better information and lower costs.

( I don't understand how this helps lower costs)

Coordinate and integrate care: Obama will support implementation of programs and encourage team care that will improve coordination and integration of care of those with chronic conditions.

(again how does this help lower costs? To implement these programs again it costs money. Where does it come from?)

Require full transparency about quality and costs Obama will require hospitals and providers to collect and publicly report measures of health care costs and quality, including data on preventable medical errors, nurse staffing ratios, hospital-acquired infections, and disparities in care. Health plans will also be required to disclose the percentage of premiums that go to patient care as opposed to administrative costs.

(Okay that sounds fine)

Ensuring Providers Deliver Quality Care

Promote patient safety. Obama will require providers to report preventable medical errors and support hospital and physician practice improvement to prevent future occurrences

Align incentives for excellence.
(More money going out. Again where does all this money come from?)

Comparative effectiveness research.
(what?)

(seems like too much government involvement in my life)

Lowering Costs Through Investment in Electronic Health Information Technology Systems
Most medical records are still stored on paper, which makes it hard to coordinate care, measure quality or reduce medical errors and which costs twice as much as electronic claims. Obama will invest $10 billion a year over the next five years to move the U.S. health care system to broad adoption of standards-based electronic health information systems, including electronic health records, and will phase in requirements for full implementation of health IT. Obama will ensure that patients' privacy is protected.

( I don't want my info stored electronically and I don't want him protecting my privacy! Again too much government involvement in my opinion. And how does this lower costs???)

Lowering Costs by Increasing Competition in the Insurance and Drug Markets

( hmmm okay)

Advance the Biomedical Research Field

(that sounds great)

Fight AIDS Worldwide

(Awesome, very noble)

Support Americans with Disabilities

(this sounds fine.)

Obama is also committed to ensuring that disabled Americans receive Medicaid and Medicare benefits in a low-cost, effective and timely manner.

(okay)

Improve Mental Health Care
(fine)

Protect Our Children from Lead Poisoning
(okay that is fine)

Reduce Risks of Mercury Pollution: Obama has a plan to significantly reduce the amount of mercury that is deposited in oceans, lakes, and rivers, which in turn would reduce the amount of mercury in fish

( okay what's the plan?)

Support Americans with Autism and their families.

(that is excellent)

So all of that sounds pretty good. The only part that is wrong with it is where is all the money coming from?? He has great solutions but

SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!,

We will still be paying taxes toward medicare and medicaid and social securtiy and then on top of all those taxes there will be the "Public Plan" tax. And on top of that there will be state taxes. Property taxes, sales tax, sin tax, library tax, and the list goes on.

This country is taxed to death!

This plan is only half of a solution.

Competition being a cost "equalizer" is a fact, the thing is, we would be at the mercy of the market forces to determine where the wheel stops. There is much analysis needed to determine what the number would be. However, with prices being where they are, I would "guess" that within a short period of time, we would see a substantial drop in the price of healthcare.

My other thought.......I agree that Obama's health care plan would cost a lot of money. But when you look at it from his point of view. His Iraq plan is to pull em all out and end it. When we have the hundreds of billions of dollars that are appropriated for use in Iraq and reel all that cash back in, we are, financially speaking, making billions in the process rather than losing it.

I have to say, I hated the guy, but Romney had an awesome health plan. Get people who couldn't afford to by single plans into groups. Then the groups by the health plan together, at a discount. That seems really practical to me...
