Brianna Denison

Few in the nation do not know the Brianna Denison case. Maybe it didn't effect you as much or maybe it did. I know for every collegiate bound, and for every young woman in college, this is a nightmare.
For those of you who don't know, at UNR, in the past couple months there have been two rapes, both victims were let go and they were unable to give a good description of the persecutor. However, one young woman was not so lucky. In January, Brianna Denison came home for winter break from the University of Santa Barbara. One night she came home from being downtown and fell asleep on one of her friends couches. The next morning she was missing. This happened on January 22. Over the next month I watched as she went from a "missing person" to a "kidnapped person" to a "young woman found dead". She was found close to my house. It is extremely eery.
Websites put out precations for young women on how to stay safe. Brianna did not know she was in danger she was sleeping on her friends couch. Granted the door should not have been unlocked. Anybody walking by the house can see straight in through the windows and could see her sleeping.
I was working when I saw on the news that her body was found. It never became so real to me until that moment. I was pretty much in denial up until that point when they said that they found her dead. I started crying for her, for her families. I do not exactly know why my response was weighted so heavily for her.
Immediately after Brianna was found, women's cautious streaks shot through the roof. Our campus escort to forever to show up becaus e they were driving everywhere. Our campus established a campus walking escort for people. Our shuttles run later. However, as time has progressed slowly on, I have noticed that peoples caution has been dropping again. People have not been talking about Brianna Denison as much. Sure, you see the blue ribbons some places, but nothing near as much as the first couple weeks that she was found dead. I have watched my friends go from being party animals to home bodies and back to party animals again. When I look around, I have the feeling that this killer is going to strike again sooner than later. People have been dropping their guards and it scares the hell out of me.
It could be me. It could be my friend. It could be someone I know. I honestly did not understand the magnitude of this case until one day it hit me. After she was found dead, we have done numerous benefits for her family and the other two young women who were raped. Just recently the place where I golf held a benefit just for Brianna.
I know that they have put the FBI on the case but it seems as though we are not getting very far in the investigation. The profile of the killer is ridiculous, it practically matches every man in the state of Nevada. It makes me sick that there are people like that vile excuse for a man in the world today. It makes it even worse that we have not caught him yet. This case was extremely wierd to me. She was abducted a block away from my college. One of the women that was raped was taken from her home which is very near the college. The other was at UNR when she was raped. We need to install parking garage cameras anything. One good thing is that campus patrol has been extremely intensified throughout the campus.
I just wish that women everywhere, everyday, at every college remember that this could be them, their friends, their family. I hope that every young woman remembers to be safe and make good choices. I hope that everday people remember Brianna Denison

I know how you feel. Two of my closest friends went to UNR last semester but they left at the end of the semester, not knowing what was to happen there. But now a couple of my friends went up there earlier today, and I am just so nervous. I feel like they too let their guards down, but who is to say it won't happen again? It is scary, and sad. :[

I'm a graduate of the University of North Carolina where Eve Carson was the student body president. She was shot near campus. I'm not sure if you're familiar with this case. It's quite similar to your cases and the one at Auburn. You're right--people definitely need to be more cautious. However, there's no need to walk around in fear either. You have to be at peace that you'll be safe, especially if you take small proactive measures to ensure your own safety.

You're absolutely right - it doesn't do any good to live in fear and never leave the house. Maybe a self-defense class or carry a small weapon.
