Eagle Project 2006
Matthew Netardus
Troop 7
Project- In my Eagle Project, I am going to put two railings on the steps to the entrance to the rear chapel at my base church. This rear chapel is usually used during services that many people are not expected to be at. Many elderly people also use this rear chapel which is much smaller then the normal church. There are several steps leading up to the entrance, and they are fairly hard to get up for the elderly in part because there is not railing for them to hold onto. My goal in this project is to put railings on these stairways so that it will be much easier for them to enter the church. This project was requested for by my priest, because he said that many people had asked him to add railings to the entrance. He said that doing so would be a great help to the church and the people.
Who Will Benefit From The Project?
The people that will benefit from my Eagle Project will be the elderly that attend my church. It will be much easier, and much safer, for them to enter the back chapel. The church will benefit because now those people are more likely to go to church and they generate revenue and an increase in prayers.
How Will They Benefit?
The elderly will benefit from increased safety, because there is less chance of them falling due to slippery concrete, or ice; and it will be less physically exhausting for the very elderly to make it up the stairs because now they have something to hang on to. The church will no longer have to worry about elderly people falling during wet or icy days.
What Official From The Group Benefiting From The Project Will Be Contacted For Guidance In Planning The Project?
I will be contacting the church priest. I will do that so the design of the handrails does not conflict with the design of the church, and so that I will be assured of its compatibility with my goal, which is to help the elderly reach the back chapel easier.
How Many People Will Be Recruited To Help Finish Your Project?
Right now I am not sure exactly how many people will be required, but I do hope that the number will be fewer than 10 so that I don’t take up to many peoples time in this project. I do need people that are able to use tools that can put the handrails in the wall, and people that can help me get the required materials, and will know exactly what materials will be needed. Adults would be preferred for this job because it is unlikely that kids will have the experience needed.
