Global Warming

I recently just finished viewing a documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, which contains the cause and effect of global warming. While watching the film, I realized, like most viewers, that global warming is becoming a bigger threat to our Earth's future than anticipated. However, no one containing a higher authority, is doing much about it. They are aware of the harmful effects, but seem to push it aside, and move on to other topics. In the film, Al Gore, who was giving the presentation, stated that the scientists who were trying to show people the facts about global warming, were critized, ridiculed, and tossed aside just like the situation at hand. However, the neglection of the truth is not going to erase the permanent damage that is going to increase throughout the years if actions are not taken. The simple actions that can help with the threat of global warming are using less electricity, driving at a slower pace, preventing unnecessary development within the area, etc. An example for unnecessary development is the building of a coal mine forty miles from my neighborhood. Even though the damage to our environment caused by the coal mine is a known fact, many of the citizens agreed, and they began building it. Why, if we are aware of the cause and disastrous effects of global warming, aren't we taking more drastic measures to prevent any further damage?

I'm obviously no expert, but my opinion is that we're not making much effort to solve the problem because 1) No one seems to be taking an initiative 2) The government still doesn't care 3) A lot of people still think Global Warming is a whole lot of bollocks, despite the recent climate changes and the effects of those changes. Just my opinion.
