Troop 7
1. Why do you want to participate in NYLT?
I would like to participate in NYLT for several reasons, one is so that I can become a better troop leader in general. Another is so that I can become a more efficient manager of my troop in terms of time management and using man power better. I would also like to improve my conflict resolution skills to prevent problems and internal strife in the troop. Lastly, I would like to become a better leader in a way that makes people want to follow, and to make my troop have more discipline.
2. What leadership trait do you want to develop and why?
I would like to develop two traits that I consider interconnected, problem resolution and discipline. I think that if I can instill more discipline in my troop, then problem resolution will come as a result of that, and it will make my troop a lot better
3. List three things you would like to improve in your troop.
The first and more important thing that I would like to improve in my troop is discipline. Discipline is the foundation of nearly every other productive trait that a troop can have. Without discipline a troop cannot accomplish goals or improve itself. The second trait that I would like to improve would be efficiency. My troop gets very little done during a meeting, and I would like to see a troop that can do a lot during a meeting, so that we don’t have to do so much during a campout when were supposed to be having fun. The third and final thing that I would like to work on during this training would be problem resolution teaching. If I could teach my troop problem resolution then I could prevent myself from having to waste time solving problems, and instead the scouts involved could solve them themselves.
4. In your own words, what is a leader?
I think that a leader is a person that shows others how to act, and what to do. He is a role model for the group. A leader must be selfless and act not for his or her own benefit, but for the betterment of the group as a whole. A leader is also a problem solver, when a problem occurs, he or she must be the one to take a leading role in solving it. The leader must also teach those below him not only basic things for normal survival, as well as leadership skills to provide the next generation with able leaders.
