I have recently Become a health guru. I joined 24hour fitness last sunday and went to the gym 5 days this week. I am encouraging you to join me in the fight to be healthier. My blog is about apples and how they help your body.
According to http://www.urbanext.uiuc.edu/apples/facts.html "Apples are a great source of the fiber pectin. One apple has five grams of fiber", "Apples are fat, sodium, and cholesterol free", "A medium apples is about 80 calories". Its all wonderful. After i work out I love to eat an apple especially If i have a headache. The perfect remedy to a headache after working out is a huge glass of water with a medium apple. I wash it good and slice it. Its sort of funny because after you take the first bite or cut its like a race against the clock because as soon as air touches it, it starts turning brown.
According to www.howstuffworks.com "...the browning reaction results from the oxidation of phenolic compounds in the fruit under the action of an enzyme called polyphenol oxidase (PPO), which is common in plant tissues." and "The easiest way to prevent browning is to put the sliced apples in water so that the enzyme does not have access to oxygen." its so fascinating.
Some more awesome facts from http://www.urbanext.uiuc.edu/apples/facts.html about apples are " Don't peel your apple. Two-thirds of the fiber and lots of antioxidants are found in the peel Antioxidants help to reduce damage to cells, which can trigger some diseases. " The science of apple growing is called pomology" "Apples were the favorite fruit of ancient Greeks and Romans.
Apples are a member of the rose family"
