Political parties splitting up???

The debatable Bush-Kennedy immigration bill is splitting up the Democrats and Republicans. If this bill passes it would grant amnesty (forgiveness) to millions of undocumented immigrants and it would begin a new foreign guest worker program. I want this bill to pass because it would give a lot of people the opportunity to find greater economic opportunities than they find in their home countries. It could also slow down the influx of illegal immigration.

Unfortunately, it is uncertain when a decision will be reached in Congress since the political parties are split in their opinions. Reagan Republicans believe that culture and diversity are very important to the U.S., but the U.S. needs to do what’s right for the Nation and not make a huge mistake in the search for more success. The Wall Street Journal Republicans believe that America needs to do anything it can to be more successful in the business field, so they support the immigration bill. The multicultural Democrats believe that mass immigration can help change the culture of the U.S. to create a more fair and tolerant Nation. They also support the immigration bill, unlike the traditional labor Democrats who believe that mass immigration would destroy the U.S. middle class.

I agree with the Wall Street Journal Republicans and the multicultural Democrats because the guest worker program would help both the U.S. economy and foreign employees. Also, the Nation could embrace a change within itself. Guest workers would remind U.S. citizens that we all as people need to work together; therefore, the amount of discrimination and racism could decrease.

i didnt know that this type of thing was happening. its funny how the political parties are fighting against themselves when they're supposed to be collaborating, especially at this critical time when a war is going on.
i think its hilarious how there are specific names for the "divided" political parties like the reagan rep. and the wall st. journal rep. :D
this is a very interesting topic and it should be brought into media attention more so that people can see why exactly the nation is in the state that it is in.

i know it's amazing that there are splits between parties, but i don't think it's funny because that weakens the political parties that we vote into office.

I disagree with you on the basis of principle. It is true as you have said that legalizing illegals would create a slight economic boost and would increase tax revenue etc. However, it would do great detriment to our values of upholding justice and the laws of our land. If we don't hold our immigration standards why should we uphold our illicit drug laws in place? Or moreover, why should we hold our civil liberties protected in the Bill of Rights to such a high standard? (Hint: we have already had these liberties explicitly stated in the Bill of Rights violated.) Its as if by dealing with illegal immigration by granting amnesty we are saying... "Ahh well, millions of you broke the law, but so what? It doesnt matter you can stay because we dont want to do the "right thing" and follow our own laws, so we'll just invent new ones."

The way I see it, this issue is more about our image than it is about the people. We have already demonstrated recently how willing we are to follow the rules when we see fit. We need look no further than Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to see... or hear the whisperings of our actions which are not in line with the Geneva Conventions. The United States has lost the respect of the Western World... nay the entire world for its unilateral actions in Iraq and the unlawful holdings of "insurgents", "enemy combatants", "terrorists", "detainees" or whatever other name we want to give these people we hold unlawfully. Its so obvious its repulsive that it must be said that we must uphold our own laws and principles if not anything else!

We need to stop taking the easy way out and start doing the "right thing" again.

"Its all very well in practice but it will never work in theory."

The laws the U.S. tries to so strictly follow will weaken if amnesty is given to illegal immigrants, but the U.S. should do it to have a good name in some countries. "The land of opportunity" will be looked down upon even more as a joke and will put the integrity of the U.S. with its supposed freedom if a break isn't given. Amnesty would be balanced by the stricter border patrols being enforced.

I disagree, the economic boost will not be significant enough to really be felt all over. Also from the standpoint of US citizens, those immigrants who did it legally and those who were born here, would not look at illegal immigrants granted with amnesty favorably, therefore reducing discrimination and racism. I think that US citizens would be more upset, looking at these illegal immigrants as people who stuck it to the system and got special treatment. I am one of those US citizens. I am not for the guest worker program, I am for deportation. Illegal immigrants aren't paying taxes, they are going to our hospitals and not paying their bill leaving that for the American people to pay even more taxes. Illegal immigrants are also coming over here having children so that they have levarage to stay. I am not against them looking for a better life, but I am however against them looking for a better life illegally.

HOw would you know anyways if ALL U.S. citizens would "not look at illegal immigrants granted with amnesty favorably"? I'm not one of those citizens because those people who do cross illegally have more drive than anyone to find success. All they want to do is pursue the American dream. What's so wrong with that. Everyone's ancestor's in the U.S. wanted a chance to build their lives into stability.

What's so wrong with doing it legally then?

Just because they have drive does not make it okay for them to come to the US illegally.

well their drive can't wait that long to do it legally. The circumstances in their home country could be so bad that the illegal immigrants need to take fast action.

So because someone has 'drive' they can break the law. A man or woman is starving and they rob a grocery store because they had the drive to stay alive... that's okay? A man or woman is about lose their house because they cannot pay the mortgage and they rob a bank because they had the drive to keep their house... that's okay? To condone breaking the law and allowing an illegal immigrant to come to this country only because they show great drive is absolutely heinous in my oppinion. The mere fact that you condone illegal immigration at all is heinous to me but that is how you feel.
