The killings of the young women who live in the small border town of Juarez, Mexico needs to stop. For the past decade, over 400 young women have been raped and murdered. But by who? And why isn't the mexican government putting an end to this?
For those of you who are not familiar with what is happening, I will give you an overview. Hundreds of bones, and severely mutilated bodies of young mexican women are turning up in the desert near Juarez, Mexico. The bodies that are found all show signs of sexual abuse, and are tied up and mutilated in the same way. Mexican authorities are doing nothing to find who these killers are, but neither are U.S.
If the families of these women are lucky, their body or bones will be discovered and a test can be run to verify that it is in fact their daughter, and not somebody else's. The bodies of the women that found are so brutally mutilated, that it is impossible to identify them.
While watching a documentary regarding this issue, I heard a disturbing story from a mexican woman explaining how her daughter went missing, and they thought they had found her body, because the clothes on the bones were the same ones that her daughter was wearing the day she disappeared. A DNA test was run to confirm that it was in fact her daughter. But to her shock, the DNA did not match. About a week later another body was found, and another DNA test was run. The second body, turned out to be this woman's daughter. But why did the first body have the exact same clothes as her daughter? What the killers do, is switch the clothes on their victims in order to confuse family members and whoever else may be trying to help.
A rare story that was told in the documentary is that of a women who was kidnapped, but was able to escape. She was put into jail for reporting what had happened to the police, and while in jail, a man came to her cell with a photo album, and inside were pictures of the women being abused.
My question is how are we letting this go on?
It is obvious that the mexican government is not going to end the killings. I believe that the U.S. needs to step in, and put a stop to it. I also believe that the more people who know about what is happening to the women of Juarez, the faster that something can be done about it, and these women can start to actually live their lives without fear. A right that I believe everyone should have.

I think this is a horrible story, and all of my sympathies go out to all of the families, but I do not think the US should get involved. It is outside of our jurisdiction, and we cannot get involved with every heinous act that occurs in the world. It would be pretty consided of us to say that we can step in over the Mexican government and take over.
Hola so X amor-
Thank you for writing on such a delicate subject as this.
I believe it is everyone's responsibility to bring attention to ANY social injustice regardless of where it is occurring.
You can't tell me it wasn't responsibility of the US to get involved during the holocaust in Germany, or during the genocide in Africa.
How is the femicide of mujeres in Mexico different?
Especially, when US foreign policy has to do with it.
You inspired me to write a blog of my own about these atrocities- please go check it out as it answers WHY this is happening and WHY the US is involved. (http://progressiveu.org/230649-femicide-mexican-issue-caused-usa)
Thank you hermana and I look forward to reading more of your literary pieces.

"You can't tell me it wasn't responsibility of the US to get involved during the holocaust in Germany, or during the genocide in Africa."
Ok, it wasn't the United States responsibility to get involved in World War Two, the holocaust didn't happen until about halfway through the war and we had no idea it was going on until late 1944, so please don't preach that which you don't know. The UN needs to intervene on these matters, not the United States, it is the UN's job not the US's to police the world. That is the problem with our foreign policy and we should go back to our anti-interventionist stance.
As I said in your blog, don't blame the US for the failing of the Mexican government. If I may quote Bob Marley, "Who are you to judge the life I live? I know I'm not perfect and I don't live to be. But, before you start pointing fingers, make sure your hands are clean.” Make sure the Mexican governments hands are clean before you start pointing fingers and let me tell you sister, the Mexican governments hands are anything but clean.
Finally your total number of deaths from Juarez is completely blown out of proportion, it is around 300 to 400 bodies, not thousands, so please don't lie to me like I am a child. Besides, not all those bodies are women, they are also drug traffickers included as well, so please get your facts straight or learn to lie a whole hell of a lot better.
