What do you think is the most important idea expressed in either
Federalist #10 -- http://www.constitution.org/fed/federa10.htm

Federalist #51 -- http://www.constitution.org/fed/federa51.htm

, or Anti-Federalist #1 --  http://www.constitution.org/afp/brutus01.htm

My response to this is:

I am of a mind set to agree with 'brutus' when he writes of men in power using their power; "to the purposes of gratifing their own intrest and ambition, and it is scarcly possible, in a very large republic, to call these men in power to account for their misconduct [unless it' is for a sexual transgression that is caught], or to prevent their own abuse of power ("First anti-Federalist Paper" 7). Two hundred and nineteen years later, it remains evident that on this paticular point, 'Brutus' was right, especially if you look at the abuse of power that is currently taking place.

I hate the way a lot of our govenment works, but I think that it was said best by Federalist #51:
But what is government itself, but the greatest of all reflections on human nature? If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary.

If our government reflects ourselves as a people, we must suck as people.

That was a very good line and a good point. Thank You for bringing that one up.
