Reality of High School

Freshman Year: Okay... so middle school flew by quick. I met new friends and kept some old ones. Everyone is three times taller than me. You have the oppurtunity to choose your classes. I'm new to this whole high school thing. Taking health, PE, Bio, and other college prepratory classes like algebra and other electives. I made the basketball team, which I enjoyed and considered as another family. One of the highlights of Freshman year was running for vice president. At first, it was for fun. I didn't expect to win. I wasn't involved in leadership in middle school... except if you counted sports and all that... But I won. I had no idea what i was getting myself into. Freshmen were either considered cute.. or naive.. As soon as I knew it, I helped organize our class in homecoming (broadway theme)... oh let's not get started with lip sync rally. Motown had to be the best theme. I was proud because upper classmen and teachers said they haven't seen a freshman class this good in a long time.

Sophomore Year: As soon as we turned into sophomores, our class as a whole united in celebration that we were no longer freshmen. The little bump of seniority made us feel closer to the top of the world. But classes for me turned into all academic classes because I realized that college is only three years away and I had to start early in planning my classes to take in high school to prepare for college. Chemistry was not what I expected. It wasn't my strength. If you are good at chem.. I commend you! I was more interested this year in geometry than last year's algebra class. I decided to run for vice president again. Not a bad job.. but not an easy one. At our school, all class vice president's jobs were to get participants for class competition activities (for example, for rallies.. lunch activities.. etc.). Our main goal by the end of the year was to find a hotel for our junior prom the next year. I became more involved in the community such as my church youth group and service and leadership team. Don't get me wrong... this leadership stuff involved a lot of time management and planning ahead.

Junior Year: I decided to keep my classes more academic to continue my goal in preparing myself for college. My classes are even harder to keep up with, esecially with all the time I am trying to give to other activities and friends and family and myself. Thinking of what college to go to and searching for scholarships and taking those further steps towards college can be an unbelievable and overwhelming experience. Guess what though.. I'm now Junior Class Vice President. I wonder if my class is sick of me. I ran unopposed, though. Unfortunately, our class's spirit this year dropped drastically. Halfway through high school, part of me can't wait until I graduate while part of me says that the years are going by way too fast. Usually in the February season... classes don't usually do anything. But our class of 2009 decided to organize our first annual fashion show. It has been attempted in many past years, but they have failed to actually make it happen. Of course many people have doubted, but now that our show is actually one week away... ITS REALLY HAPPENING... and everyone wants to go!! Our show benefits prom as well as The Global Fund.. the charity foundation our school has been sponsoring throughout the year. And in about a month from now... it will be PROM!!! How exciting! I've been to prom before, but this one is extra special to me because it is MY junior prom.. and i was able to experience the organization of the event behind the scenes! But as much as these events sound exciting.. Much of my time and energy has been donated in the benefit of our school and our community. Sometimes, it seems that class officers or any type of coordinators anywhere don't get as much recognition for their as they should. But it's okay. At least to me because the gift I receive in return is of seeing that I have entertained and made others feel welcome and involved and have become aware of a certain message each event is trying to send. This year.. our school actually has a purpose and theme. Our school is united with the idea of being "inspi(red)". Reaching out the community and not just our school while raising the awareness that there are people in the world in need.

Senior Year: Not there yet. But planning on making the best of it. After that... no more high school.. no more of the things said above... just the real world after this...

Senior year was the best for me. Trust me you will love it. it is the best year because your the "top dogs". Not much childish stuff goes on like in the rest of the grades. Best of luck!!

Your school must have been remarkably mature. The seniors in my class were worse than most underclassmen. I envy you. :)
