Is "How are you?" a yes or no question?

"Hey, how are you doing today?"
"Yeah, I'll take a foot long cold cut combo...."

OR EVEN BETTER

"Hey, how are you doing today?"
"Yeah...i dont know."
"You don't know how you're doing today?"
"I'll take a 6 inch on italian...."

Why is it so hard to say, "Good, and you?"

I'm not asking you to pretend that I am making you the greatest sandwich in the world. I'm definitely not asking to be your best friend. I AM asking you to take 2 minutes out of your day to acknowledge me just a little.

AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, GET OFF YOUR CELL PHONE WHEN I'M MAKING YOUR FOOD! YOU IGNORE ME AND IT PISSES ME OFF!!!!

AH pet peeves of mine!

Any thoughts on this? I know get too upset about it, but it's because I deal with it all day and it's like chinese water torture. Is it too much to ask that some one hang up their phone and answer a few polite questions? Or is this restaurant job eating away at my soul? Oh god....

PS 10 bonus points to anyone who can guess what restaurant I work at.

If you think this blog sucks, give it 1 star. If it rocks your world, give it 5!

True, the world could stand to be a bit more understanding of each other. But then the food industry is there for people's convenience. People don't want to cook, so they come there to grab food and leave. I guess you could compare it to butlers and things. People wouldn't sit down and converse with their butler or cooks... so why should people do that with a fast food employee?

haha I know exactly what you mean...(subway I'm guessing)...I used to work at arby's and I hated working drive thru when people were on the phone...or even better yelling at their kids the whole time and then you for not getting their order
I remember one night when I was working a guy came through at like 11 and he a) drove through the drive thru backwards and b) was so drunk and high that the smell actually made me gag...he was so rude and hitting on me the whole time and I was just like dude don't go there I should be calling the cops on you for even driving right now...
but yes, I don't understand why it's so hard for people to be nice and courteous back to workers that are servicing them...you're human beings too
