Over the years, less and less people are motivated to become teachers because of money or other desires, either that or schools are expanding like crazy, that we don't have enough educators to be hired. At my school, we are in desperate need of teachers, especially of teachers that REALLY are MOTIVATED to do their job. I'm not saying that all teachers aren't motivated or that they don't care, but some of them at our school don't. So, what is the reason we have a shortage of teachers? it could be money, of course, because teacher salaries are way lower than our bus drivers (Hawaii) pay (even paramedics and such). Anyway, how do we get more teachers for schools? especially schools who are unfortunate as ours is? I think we should pay teachers more money, because most take time to come to school to educate students. So, why do we lack teachers? Is it because people LACK motivation to become one, (or of course their hearts are set on another career) Or is it because the pay is too little for the differences some teachers make in their student's lives year after year? I dont' know what it is.
P.S. sorry about the jumbled thoughts. and please anyone, do not take this blog to offense. I did not intend any.

I do realize that we need a lot more teachers...and in many cases a lot better qualified ones! But I do not think I could ever have enough patience to become one...I could not stay calm all the time lol
lol i know what you mean.

why people don't become teachers as much; I'm sure there's a myriad of reasons. I think one reason is that historically speaking, the majority of teachers have been women. Perhaps as jobs began to open up, women began to explore their options outside of teaching, homemaking, nursing, etc. Perhaps because children/teens have changed so much over the generations, people feel it's harder to handle them. I don't know. But I am going to school to be a high school English teacher. I must admit though that I plan to act on the side, and if I got my "big break" I would most definitely leave. I've never planned to teach for the rest of my life. But I will if I have to, and I wouldn't mind it one bit. ^_^
I see what you're saying. That makes a lot of sense. I totally understand about women expanding their horizons, and I am all for it. I sort of want to be a teacher, an English teacher, too, but I probably choose it as my lifetime career as well.

yep I knwo what you mean totally!

are right.... people lose the interest in becoming teachers since their salaries never increase.
There are some who have to repay college loans. That is why i think Basic exams should be not used for those over a certain age because I could not find my SAT I have to take the basic exam.
