Frivolous Spenders

One thing that kind of pisses me off is when people complain they don't have money for important things, yet they go off and spend it on frivolous things. Like video games.

Um. From what I recall, video games are not as important as education. Or...I don't know. A car. Not even a nice car, just a car. Food? Clothing. Shelter.

Really, now.

I have a friend who is just like that. He wants to go to college, but instead of investing in a nice school, he wants to go to County. County's not bad, and in fact if I were stuck in a hole, I'd totally go to County on the Stars program (It's an NJ thing). He's not eligible for Stars, so he'd have to pay out-of-pocket. County's not that expensive for the sheer fact that, you know, it's County. The thing that makes it expensive are the textbooks, because regardless of what school you go to, books are ridiculously expensive.

Anyway, I read his journal when he posts, and he talks about how his mom's not working, his check from his father (late father) hasn't come in, and he doesn't know if he can pay for County.

Yet his next post talks about how he's going to save up to buy import games.

Wait, what?

Okay so some people will tell me that I'm hypocritical, blah, blah, blah. Actually no, I'm not. I'm not complaining that I can't pay for college, but brag that I can buy whatever from H&M or something. I complain that my financial aid was cut, tuition went up, and now I have to pay more. And even then it's not me paying the bill. All I have to take care of is gas, textbooks, art supplies and whatever else I need to survive (theoretically) at UArts. If I feel like I can spend the extra money to get a hot dog, get a new sundress, or even go to a convention to spend time with my friends, I do it, and I refrain from complaining later.

I don't know. I don't get it.
