For many people, an NROTC scholarship is a way to help pay for college, a simple means to an end. For me however, the desire I feel for an NROTC scholarship goes beyond the simple monetary compensation. The primary reason that I want to get an NROTC scholarship is so that I can guarantee myself a place in the best environment possible for a college student to learn the skills and leadership qualities most needed for combat commands. A 4 year scholarship would not only pay for all of college, but it would assure me a place in the ROTC program, albeit with appropriate work on my part, that would set the stage for 4 years of military oriented classes designed to make me into the best officer possible coming out of college. I truly value this because during my career as a Marine, the foundation of my abilities as an officer will play a huge role as to how successful I am both in training, and in combat. This foundation will indeed be the one built during ROTC classes and training during college, and therefore makes an NROTC scholarship a near must have for my future ambitions as a Marine infantry leader.
