Children having children!

It’s amazing how many teenagers these days are becoming pregnant. I remember when it used to be a shame for a young girl to become pregnant before marriage. I don’t mind if teenage girls have children, it would just be nice if they would think about the consequences first. I used to be against abortion, but I’m sick and tired of seeing so many girls pregnant. I’m sick and tired of seeing those poor children being raised by someone who is not even mature enough to take care of themselves and then want to raise their own kids. That’s probably why we have so many cases of child abuse and neglect. These young parents want to blame their children for the “fun” they couldn’t have because they have to sit at home and watch them. No need for them to blame their kids when it’s their mistake and their the once who have to pay for it.

Teen pregnancy has gone down in recent years, believe it or not. It was higher in the 90's than it is now.

I'm less concerned about children having children than about children having sex at all. There should be an age limit to having sex. Well, this country's minimum age is already 16. Why can't we raise it to 21? Anyone under 21 who is caught trying to get an abortion or buying a condom will now be subject to fine. It's about time we teach children some responsibility around here.

Raise the voting age to 21 while you're at it. And make kids graduate from high school at 21 too, since apparently they're not mature enough to do anything at 18.

Exactly. Glad we're on the same page.

Talk to me again when I"m a 21 year old med student. Or better yet, a 20 year old med student, cause that's how old I plan to be when I matriculate.

I know some 16 year olds that are more mature than some 25 year olds that I know. Maturity is only a function of age to a point. Get over yourself.

So you know "some 16 year olds that are more mature than some 25 year olds," but do they represent the majority of people their ages? I think in a democratic nation such as our lovely U.S., we should do things that will favor the majority. What say you?

I know many teenagers that have made countless mistakes through their short lives. I also know many more that are trying to make good lives for themselves. 90% of high school students hope to go to college. 75% actually make it. A number of those that don't, and some that do, go and work full time jobs to support themselves. Yes, there are those that make mistakes, whether it be to do drugs, alcohol, or have sex that leads to a kid. Much of the time, this happens in the lower classes. I'm not saying it doesn't happen higher up, but typically the higher classes have better access to contraceptives, and are more likely not to make mistakes that will affect their entire lives. Raising the age at which people can leave high school and start their adult lives isn't going to lead to a more mature population. They will make the same mistakes whether you keep them in a lower education system for 3 years or not. Believe it or not, college helps kids grow up. Getting out into the semi real world helps them grow up.

Perhaps you should talk to the parents of the kids that are having sex. I mean, there must be something in the household that's making these kids think that they should go out and have sex without using protection, and get knocked up as a result... right? I still hold that teen pregnancy has gone down in recent years... the rate has been cut by nearly 1/3 since the early 90's. So now kids are getting more mature than their 90's counterparts, don't you think?

That has got to be one of the DUMBEST things I have ever laid my eyes upon.
Since we're not gonna have sex till we're 21, why don't we live with our mommy's and daddy's until we are 40?
Seriously. If parents and schools would just teach the kids better it wouldn't be such a problem.

And in response to the actual blog---

I noticed this when I moved to Indiana. I mean, I had noticed it before, but it seems EVERYONE in this town I live in now has had a kid-before the age of 18. It is kind of scary when you think about it. My boyfriends brothers girlfriend just turned 20 and has 3 kids already. It seems everyone around here is that way.

Yea thats really not going to work. Education about it needs to be better

I unfortunately live in Indiana and sex education isn't taught until late in high school. It should be seriously started in 4th grade and repeated every year until graduation.

I think it really is the parents fault and the morals they teach their children as they grow up.
