Stress

Tonight I experienced pain. Yes, it was a physical pain in my abdomen, a pain I am quite familiar with. When I first felt this pain 3 years ago, I thought my appendix had burst and so my mom took me to the doctors for some ultra sounds and x-rays. We later found out that my pain was caused by ovarian cysts. Many women would nod their heads with that diagnose because many of us get one or two of them in our lifetime. But mine have decided to stay. I still have them...yes, "them"...It IS plural.
Through the past few years, I have endured this pain off and on, not wanting to undergo surgery, for fear of never having my own children. This has stressed me out which enabled me to get sick on many different occasions.
But here is the irony in the situation...my Obgyn told me that my cysts were caused by stress. The cycle is vicious because the cysts are worsened with stress but they stress me out. I have not quite figrued the whole mess out yet but I just find it ironic that the very thing causing my stress is caused by stress.

Its not so much a topic of discussion as a thought. =).

I'm sorry to hear that. That is true about many forms of illness, but it seems to be a self-defeating prophecy that stress makes you sick.

I too have ovarian cysts. I have had them burst and I have had some get very large. I too was scared about surgery and wanting to have kids. You can have surgery just to remove the cysts, not the whole ovary. They did that for me and they found that I also had endometriosis. That seemed even bleaker to me, however, now they know how to better treat me because they found out that I had endometriosis and the cysts. And the only way to diagnos endometriosis is by seeing it during surgery. You can't see it in an untrasound or detect it in the blood, only with surgery.

So, yes, you can have surgery and still have kids, I am living proof of that. Find an OBGYN who will just remove the cyst(s) and not the whol ovary and ask them to check for endometriosis.

Ok, Ill talk to mi madre about that. =)
Thank you.
Surgery in general just scares me, though! 'sigh'. But Id take surgery over this pain for the rest of my life.

It is odd that the thing that causes you pain - the cyst is casued by stress and it produces more stress. Try to take it easy untill you decided about the surgery - stressing wont help you.
