I never really understood why people let the words and opinions of others have such a harsh affect on them. If he hadn’t slipped up and said it on the radio then he would’ve said it during a discussion with a friend. What he said has nothing to do with how these girls play or their “love for the game”.
This nation was built on racism and discrimination and honestly it won’t ever change.
As a young, black, talented, “nappy headed”, dedicated volleyball player I am sure worse things get said about my teammates and I when we walk into a gymnasium full of young, Caucasian volleyball players.
Do we ever think about them and what they have to say? NO because we have come for one thing and one thing only to win!! We look at those girls who tend to always be taller and more experienced and we just play. Because we all love and appreciated volleyball and one another we persevere.
SO TO THE LADIES OF RUTGERS BASKETBALL TEAM! JUST PERSEVERE, DON’T LET ANYTHING STAND IN YOUR WAY!!!!

That aside,
This nation was built on racism and discrimination and honestly it won’t ever change.
Bull. Are you actually saying treatment of blacks has not changed in the 200+ years the USA has existed?
Yes, that is exactly what I am saying(I thought I stated that clear enough...but..okay), and I believe that I know what I am talking about. Growing up in Baltimore City, attending a school where even my teachers make racial comments I'm around it every day. These racial tensions aren't as evident as before but they are, without a doubt, still continuing. The KKK have turned in their white sheets for police uniforms and nice three piece suits; and instead of hanging or burning African Americans they take part in a little something called police brutality or illegal arrests. To let your guard down and to believe that racial discrimination has ended is CRAZY and I believe that Imus was fired for saying that on the air not because that radio station didnt want to associate themselves with someone who was so ignorant.
Wait, you mean blacks are still slaves, have to step into the gutter, literally, are not allowed to read or write, can't go to school, and are routinely lynched?
Sweetie in terms of what your perception of a slave may be, No, not at all. But just in case no one ever told you, slavery is much more than not having the right to read, go to school, and write.
Slavery is all about breaking the spirit of a person and forcing them to believe that they can’t be more that what they are. Routine lynching and not being educated are just ways of doing this. Slavery was made so that a race of people would hate themselves and each other and to make it hard for them to become who and what they were; a brilliant, beautiful, and intelligent people with self-pride and integrity.
Reality check sweetie it is still here it's just modernized.
Still around, certainly, but to say it hasn't gotten better in 200 years is idiotic.
I do agree that this country was built on slavery.
But then, every empire was. That is not a new thing exclusive to "whites" and "blacks". And certainly did not come about just here...The Egyptians had slaves, Hellenistic Romans had slaves, Catholic Romans had slaves...
However, slavery was not about racism; racism came in later. So to equate this country being built on slavery to today's racism issues is not accurate.
As far as perception, there really isn't room for "perception" when defining slavery. Slavery is not about breaking spirits, limiting education, or mistreating people. What slavery is about is the ownership of another person (and his or her offspring if applicable) who serves you and follows your demands. The rest of it, the breaking of spirits, limiting education, and mistreatment, are each individual cases. Essentially, the latter can be an end result of the former, but is not necessarily intertwined.
Therefore, slavery has changed. It is no longer here (in the sense in which you are speaking), and no other person can own, sell, buy, or trade another person and force said person to do his or her bidding.
