our societies epidemic: desensitization

Every society faces one problem that defines it. Our ancestors have problems from nature like the Ice Age, and the Black Death. They have also face war, famine, and hate. I think one of the largest problems our society faces is desensitization.
Heres a couple of everyday images for you:
A young boy of no more that five sits in front of a tv. Hes focused, eyes straigh foward, uncaring of whats going on around him. And hes laughing, hes laughing that sweet innocent laught that can only come from a child.
What would you thing this child is watching? A cartoon, perhaps a funny Disney movie? No, this childs watching a movie like 300. Hes watching a movie like Resident Evil. This innocent child laughs as the people on the tv are ripped to shreds, as they blood flows and they cry out in pain.
Heres anouther:
A woman walks into the doctors office holding her six month old child. The womans face is sagged and her eyes have dark circles around them from lack of sleep. The woman tells the doctor that her baby cant seem to keep food down. She says that no matter what formula she tries, her baby spits it back up. Shes say her baby isnt sleeping well either, and is so weak it cant even hold its own head up. The doctor, without examing the child simply says its common for babies that age and will be fine. The mother argues that this is the third time shes come in because her babys just not getting better. The doctor says shes just being overly nervous and simply prescribes a different formula for the child. The mother walks out cradling her child, the head hung low.
These are simply everyday occurences. Yet they shadow a much large problem. They show just how little we care about each other these days. Whether through overexposure by tv and movies, or something else, we as a society show a lack of care for each other. Our society is violent and self centered. Ceo scimp on every pay raise possible just they can make a few bucks more. Gang bangers kill innocent bystanders just for fun.
This desensitization can be found on all levels of society. We hold ourselves, money, and material possesions over the lives of those around us.
This problem affects you, me, and everyone around us. It affects presidents in the same way it affect coke dealers.
We can change this. "Do unto others as you would have then do unto you." This quote shows one of the most fundamental points of being human. We can distinguish right from wrong. So when the oppritunity presents itself, remember to lend a helping hand. Just try caring. It can make all the difference.
