Free to be Confined

Carly Jo's picture

This Poem is about the controvers and conflict within one's self in search for freedom, and frustration and disappointment on a deep emotional level concerning religion. No, I do not base my faith on the poem, though it does express some key elements in my personal theology.

Free to be Confined by Carly Jo

How I feel, I don't know,
When my nerves are growing cold.
The numbness settles in with a bite.
I'm trapped inside my self,
This oppression is my hell.
My eyes have forgotten of the light.

Chains can hold my wrist,
And chains can keep me down,
But never will my heart be stopped,
For it beats it's notions aloud:
"To be set free, while this body lie in waste,
To be set free, while my physical decays,
To be so free, from all this bitterness and hate,
To be set free, though exiled through my days."

I was told my sin would kill,
But words are never real.
Until I was deposed by my desire.
I was liberated then,
By a King with crimson skin.
Still remains the earthly burden of fire.

sin enraptures a moment,
And sin will desolate a life,
But, can we ever be free of it's burden?
Even through the Christ?
To be set free is a false security,
To be set free is to run back to captivity.
Set me free and listen for it's mighty ring,
To be set free, is to be confined for eternity.
