How I get back up on my feet

When I think I'm about to give up on anything or everything, there's always something there to remind me why I shouldn't. All that anyone really needs in order to get right back up on their feet is encouragement. There are many ways to get this kind of encouragement. Personally, two ways have been most effective. It would either be encouragement from someone who I respect or setting my mind on a goal that is selfless.

When I say "encouragement from someone who I respect" I really mean someone who has authority yelling at me. When somebody yells at me I remember why it is important. I also get reminded that someone out there cares. There's more importance in a task that someone other than yourself is depending on. During such a time, if you fail, you won't only disappoint yourself but others as well. This one failure will greatly influence your name. As we understand, reputation is very important. "If you were born a rich man and died a poor man, then you are a poor man." That is why reputation is important; whatever reputation you receive from others before your death is how you will be remembered.

After report cards come out, I always have a friend or two who feel like they need to get their act together in order to do improve for the next marking period. In my opinion, the only way to do well is to have a good reason to. Having an incentive to do something is essential (this is why a capitalist economy is so awesome). As a part of human nature, we need competitiveness equally as much as we need love. The best and most effective incentive for anyone, I believe, is a selfless one. Referring back to my previous statement on how someone else's dependence affects performance, it is even most effective for a person to act with absolute selflessness.

Doing something and doing it to your fullest is essential for living life. It builds character and every obstacle you face and get through makes you a stronger person. This strength and experience are what make a person who they are. Age may come with wisdom but so do experiences and observations. Always remember a task's importance, no matter how small.

It is good to have a reason to do something but the only reason anyone will continue to do something to excell is if they are doing it for themselves - if they derve satisfaction of some sort from it.
