I don't know how many people know about it, but the Patriot Acts are acts that violate our constitutional rights. Did you know that you can be arrested, and the police can refuse to tell you what your being arrested for because you are a suspected terrorist? They can bug your phones, too, and they can listen into your private conversations.
People say that if you're not a terrorist that it won't matter. I don't care. How do you prove that you're not a terrorist if you don't even know that's what you're being arrested for? They can arrest you and not tell you why, and you could not even be a proven terrorist. The only reason this passed was because people were so scared of terrorism after the tragic event of 9/11. I cried that day, and yes I was very scared, but the acts weren't a good solution.
I remember a few months after 9/11 my grandpa was going to go on a plane. They put him through extra security because they thought that he might be a terrorist because he looked Middle-Eastern to them. My grandpa is full Mexican. Is that okay? Couldn't a terrorist be White, too? A terrorist could be of any ethnicity! It doesn't make sense.
This is no way for a government to be run.
I don't understand it. In the War in Iraq, President Bush is using the same techniques that made the Vietnam War so long and so bloody. He's using small light troops that can easily get from place to place. Why can't we learn from our mistakes that we have made in the past?
Thinking about panics reminds me of the whole anthrax scare a few years ago. Do you know how many people died from anthrax? LESS THAN 5! Why was the whole country worked up in a panic because of this?
There are some things that I think I will never understand.
Violation of Rights
