Species: the "it" girl.

in order to be a female icon, a trendsetter, an "it" girl, you must exude confidence. According to Cosmo you must also have a) short hair, b) blunt bangs, or c) both.

In my own opinion a trendsetter is a girl who is very aware of her surroundings. Someone who hunts for brands and simple things for her to support. A trendsetter is nothing without the trends she sets.
So to be a trendsetter, you need to set yourself apart from the crowd.You would need to do this, so that people will notice what trend you happen to be setting.So you cannot be oblivious to being a trendsetter. An "it" girl is entirley aware of the fact that they are"it".
They make a concious decision to become that person.
They make an effort to be someone that others fear and envy.

By doing so an "it" girl makes themselves ever so more appealing by becoming lonley and cut off from society. Which makes them even more longed after because this would exhibit an ability to be self-sufficient that most people of our generation would kill for.

But that in itself is a cliche. becuase the trendsetter made herself  the leader conciously and purposley, So that everyone else would notice and mimic her. so she isolates herself to gain the attention of the world.

So by becoming an icon, you rid yourself of humanity and turn yourself into a trend sooner or later.
