Free Vegetarian Hugs

Friday, September 28 was Free Vegetarian/Vegan Hugs Day.  There recently was a recall on 21.7 million pounds of Topps Meat Company’s ground beef.  This was due to inadequate E.coli safety measures.  To avoid running into diseases, such as E.coli and heart disease, you could consider a vegetarian lifestyle.  Cutting out meat, or both meat and dairy products, has many benefits for your body and world

Animal proteins cause cancer; by not eating meat, it reduces your risk of getting cancer by 40 percent.  Fats and cholesterol found in meat also cause heart disease, making it a 50 percent greater risk for meat eaters.  Vegetarians and vegans live an average of six to 10 years longer, because their bodies are not being polluted.  This diet also gives you clearer skin and more energy.

You are not the only one who is benefiting by not eating meat; you are also helping the world.  More than half of the water used in our country is for raising animals.  According to the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) a vegetarian diet requires 300 gallons of water a day, while a meat-eating diet requires more than 4,000 gallons.  The meat industry is ironically the producer of the most water pollution (more than all other industries in the U.S. combined.)  One-third of all raw materials and fossil fuels, as well as two-thirds of Amazonian deforestation are used for cattle farming.

Meat and dairy are not needed for survival.  It is used as a means to satisfy our taste buds for a brief time.  Today we are lucky, because it is easy to find alternatives.  Many grocery stores stock a variety of fake meats as well as non-dairy substitutes.  If you would like to learn more you can visit these websites:http://www.goveg.com/  orhttp://www.peta.com/

Can you prove animal proteins cause cancer?

I have to disagree with this comment.

That's all propaganda. Show me legitimate sources, and I might believe you.

I'm not saying it's "bad" to be a vegan or a vegetarian, but don't try to force people to believe that meat is cancerous. That's just silly.

I am not forcing anything, or trying to, those are facts.
Watch that video, he cites many studies.

In the defense of meat I have written a blog to dispel the many myths including that it causes heart disease, cancer, and that vegetarians or vegans are somehow healthier. These claims are completely unfounded, and as you will read many scientific studies have clearly proven otherwise.

Please take a moment to check it out:

Eating meat is not bad for the environment. The meat INDUSTRY is bad for the environment. Pesticides are also bad for the environment. If we all stopped eating meat, there is absolutely no way that we could avoid using pesticides because of the amount of crops we'd have to produce. And no, PETA is not a credible source for, well, anything. PETA is a biased special interest group, and everything they say is meant to serve their purpose.
