I had to write this
paper for English and I thought, what the hell I bet a lot of people would love
to hear how hard it is to find a good book. So here we go.
The search for my
book started that day, when we were assigned to look for a book composing of
short stories, essays, or poems. Knowing my self, I realized that it would be a
tough assignment because I do not really like to read short essays. I do not
even like to read my own essays. I guess that shows that I probably should not
be an English teacher. Right after class, I went with my friend to the Spartan
bookstore with her because she did not know where it was and needed to get a
history book. While she sifted through the history book section, I went ahead
and asked one of the bookkeepers if they had any books that were composites of
short essays. Needles to say they had “that” book that had to do something with
the best American essays. That meant that they would be long, boring, overly
sophisticated, and well, to deep for me to want to write just about anything
about them. What a shocker wouldn’t you say? Saying no to that book was second
nature for me. Just the thickness of the book was daunting. After my friend was
done we went ahead and left the bookstore, and said our good byes, and whishing
each other good luck on our classes hoping to see each other the next day. Not
to be disheartened, I set my sights on Barns and Nobel. I had to pick up my
mother at work at five o’clock because I was using her car while mine was being
repaired, which is still without a transmission.
I arrived at Barns and Nobel
and went straight to the first employee I saw, and asked him if they had any
books that where composites of short essays. Right away he took me to a small
remote corner of the store and showed me a section dedicated to the people like
me, who realized you do not have to write big novels to make money. You can
just writing little papers, and then combine them into one big book, just to
sell them for eight to twenty dollars. Right away looking through the section
of lost thoughts, I mean short stories, I just so happened to see that book, on
the best American essays. I wonder what made them the best? Not to be
pessimistic about the whole thing I knew I had to find a book about a person
that had written a short story book but to make sure that it was not dreary. It
had to have some life and color to it. Right after thinking those thoughts is
saw towards the bottom a small red book. Happy that it was small, but happier
when the book happened to have a colorful name, “Fraud” written by David
Rakoff. It’s supposed to have literary smarts, gut-busting one-liners,
withering wit and self-effacing humor. It was the book just for me. I took the
book in hand and went straight to the cashier and with a bit of pride and joy
went to pay for the book. I give her the book, she asks for twelve ninety-five.
I reach fro my wallet in my back pocket, only to realize that I forgot it in
the car. Slightly embarrassed I ask her to hold on to the book and without any
protest I ran to the car and ran back with my wallet in hand. I paid for my new
red book, and head for my moms work to pick her up, inching to read my newfound
book.
P.S. sorry for how the text turned out. i have trouble copying and pasting from my word document and it ends up all screwy 8P

the book was good. im enjoying it and i have to write small journals about each one so i still have not decided if im am going to post any of them.
you want a good book? Try anything by Philippa Gregory (historical fiction) or A Great And Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray (fiction). If you need something else, just ask! I'm a book freak and I am thinking of English Lit/Creative writing major or maybe, even and, library science to be a librarian. Just ask!!!
