The Worst Mistake in Human History

I think most of you would know what I’m talking about when I say “necessary evil”. Others could call it the worst mistake in human history. Whether it is or not; we know money is the answer to everyone’s grieve and happiness. So what do we do about it? Money drives us humans into war, conflicts, between the best of friends, whether acquaintances or national allies, but money also is the answer to human’s happiness, pleasures, and daily life.

I read an article in my AP world history class in the beginning of the year. The guy in there claimed that the creation of Agriculture was the worst mistake in human history. The human civilization that existed before the Common Era had a very civilized and nomadic lifestyle. They were hunters and gatherers who rarely see conflicts. They were able to support themselves in little groups.

Then came the creation of agriculture. Instead of hunting and gathering, the people of the stone age settles themselves in little towns, farming, thus creating what we call today a “civilization”.

Civilization then creates the best and worst of things. The people were able to have a much easier lifestyle. But it also created a much deeper scar in human history. The population began to grow, the space begins to limit down, the people were packed into cities, diseases spread, and it was the creation of war, and thirst for power and conquest.

But power and conquest over what? Money.
It was both inevitable. The creation of agriculture or money.
But I definitely blame money over all the conflicts in history. Even though money is needed for communication, global economy, or the base of all things. But you must see all the horrible human acts that were driven by money! The simplest thing, like applying for a scholarship to go to college, or struggling to decide which shirt you should buy with your $20 bill.

Personally, I prefer to hunt and gather rather than what we have today. But trust me, I prefer MORE to not have to turn on the TV and hearing news everyday about governments raising taxes, political campaigns, a gold digger who just shot her Hollywood’s actor husband.

I've traveled in the Northern Territory of Australia a little. Quite a few of the aborigines there try to maintain their traditional hunter gatherer life-style. The Australian Government maintains vast chuncks of land where they are free to do so like the Kakadu National Park. They are not completely successful and there is clearly some interaction with modernity and some of it is hugely detremental to them like alcohol.

What I saw of their existence looked miserable. It is not very hard in terms of physical effort. They have a tremendous amount of time where they sit around and do very little. There is very little to do. Most of them look to have horrible health and they age young. Their art is interesting but very limited. And their music is pretty much limited to voices, drums and one instrument, the dijoridoo (sp?). I suppose they talk a great deal for entertainment but what is there to talk about which hasn't already been said? When they are hungry they start a forest fire. They follow along behind the fire and gather up the "bush tucker" like charred lizards, snakes and bugs. It was stuff that I wouldn't offer to a beggar.

Given a choice, I'll take civilization every single time.

We are definitely debating on what comforts humans the most. Remember, not all of us are alike. Some prefer peace, some prefer family, some prefer entertainment, some prefer health. Nomadic hunters and gathers had a very long life, and high mortality rates. Civilization created the worst of us. War, crime, poverty, conflicts, greed. Those things will bring the fall of humans. The creation of agriculture was a huge mistake.

Actually civilization didn't create the worst for us. Power did it. Humans are easily corruptable, what the hugest mistake in history is, is the philosophy of politics.
