what is really truth

Tagged:  •

I got a college postcard from the university of chicago and it goes something like this.

"After class I sat with a friend. I had tea and she had physics and truth. I told her physics could never prove justice or truth. She says science aims at truth, not love. I asked her if this meant that love was less true."

So the question is, what is truth?!? Is it a bunch of mathematics and reasons akin to the GUTS (general universal theory of systems) or is it all an interpretation? Is the truth different for me than it is for you. Is truth what things really are? and how do we really know thats what it is. We percieve things through our senses, how do we know that they do not lie to us, distorting reality and sending us a swayed point of perspective. i must say that I don't know.

I dont know what the truth is. i dont know if i really aced that histroy test since histroy books are written by the victors and i wasnt there. even i was there and i witnessed it first hand, would it really be the truth. perhaps you know the truth and you could share it with me.

like the matrix, i am content to live in my little bubble where truth still exsists. yea, i try to ask questions and get somehwere, but i still feel comofortable believing that truth is out there. somewhat liek the answers to life. they might not be accesible to me, but it has to be out there somewhere. or why are we living. life is not there. there is no reason to live, beacuse there is no truth.

like hope, truth becomes the new thing. the one thing that keeps people living and going. a new kidn of faith, a new kind of inner drive.

If something isn't true (as in there's no one true way of life, belief, etc), I'd call it either an opinion or a lifestyle. For example, if person A believes in stem cell research and votes for a bill that's for it, they are neither right or wrong for doing so. It's their opinion(although we can have deeper discussions about what's right and wrong concerning politics). When I think of people having have their own "truth", I'd rather say people have their own morals. Of course, as long as your morals don't physically hurt anyone else(i.e. killing, rape), then you're ok. And I do believe that if it's not wrong, then it's right...for you. Everyone's morals are different. But the truth is constant. I.e. If there's something else to the universe besides stars and planets, then that's the truth. If there is nothing, then that's the truth. We may never know so all we can do is speculate; and that's called an opinion(funny how we forget sometimes). There is one truth to certain questions(even if not known) but not all questions(obviously not democrat, repub- there's no right and wrong unless there's an immoral reason why someone would choose one party over another).
