I’m not allowed to support every part of my heritage?
The past 2 days on this site I have been constantly attacked by a user on another persons blog. This user is harassing me for what I believe in, and for standing up and being proud of my heritage. For starters let me say:
I am Irish, Italian, Native American, Scottish and have a bit of Dutch in me as well. Although all my family members fought for the North, I now have family that lives in the South, and I take great pride in that.
Now, this user saw my myspace profile and was trying to tell me that I am a terrible person because I am a republican that loves and support my country, but also because I am EXTREMELY proud of my Irish heritage. He told me I am wrong and stupid because I support myself.
Wow. How extreme is that? I can’t support every part of my heritage just because in HISTORY they have had disagreements, or because one country doesn’t like another now? That doesn’t make any sense to me.

It is just the stupidity of the entire thing that was getting me. I find it hard to believe people actually think that way...
Colin, did you actually read the comments, did you view the myspace account, are you familiar enough with Irish history to declare me stupid? I'm actually surprised that you would comment so blindly without establishing a frame of reference.
Redshaneck, you find it hard to believe that people think this way, because you've probably never even left the South, let alone America.
Also all this talk of 'attack' and 'harassment', put down the violin. I passed comment, the same as you did on the blog, except you countered by saying my comment was stupid. So that was the first stone thrown right there by you. Now the fact that you actually kept commin back to the blog to call me names, well that kinda negates the whole harassment thing. Drop the victim act. You and redneck hunter wished AIDS and STDs on the blogger who's blog it was.
You continuously attacked me. You are so full of shit. I never said anything about AIDS or STDS, hunter did-I silently agreed. That is still besides the point.
And for your damn information-I'm not from the south. I lived in Michigan all my life, until a few weeks ago when I moved to Indiana. AND-I went to europe for a month 2 summers ago.
So get your facts straight before you run your nasty little mouth.
I do not keep going back to call you names-I go back to defend myself, if you were to shutup and mind your own business there wouldn't be a problem.

As for travelling to Europe, I can only assume you didn't travel to Ireland.
Also, when you post stuff in the public domain, it is everybody's business.

I'm Irish and Scottish. I practice Celtic Polytheism passed down for a few generations (at least 4, possibly 5), I believe in fairies (I even decorate a tree outside my house during Yule so they will come eat and protect my home), and I like to drink. Yea, that's me in a nutshell.
My families came over when my grandparents were teenagers; they met on the boat and fell in love. My grandfather fought in World War II, my father in every war from Vietnam to Operation Desert Storm. I am an American, and I hate it when people refer to me as an "Immigrant" just because my great-grandparents were immigrants. I am as American as anyone else.
Heritage is more than your chemical make-up. Heritage is the areas in which you live, the loves and traditions in which you take part, and the teachings you pass on. Do they all need to be recognized separately, no. But they should all be recognized.

Redshaneck you are such a bullshitter. I said nothing of the sort. You are just trying to win support by lying to these people. At which point did I say you 'couldn't be Irish because [you're] proud of America today'. I call bullshit on that shameless attempt to exploit your fellow Americans sense of national pride. I said that if you are proud of what the confederacy stood for then you have sold out on Ireland. This is a sentiment which has been around since the Civil War.
In fact what I said is the exact opposite of that, because if the confederacy had it's way then America would not be as it is today.
Look at it this way, what would you call a group of American citizens who fought for Al Qaeda and helped mastermind 9/11? Traitors maybe? Now what would be your reaction to seeing them celebrating their Americanism along side their pride in what Al Qaeda had done? Would you not be pissed off. When I see Irish culture allied to the confederacy I see traitors.

Wonder no more... Why would I have a problem with you dating an Italian? My last girlfriend was Ethiopian. This isn't about race, it's about culture. I'm not advocating the purity of precious bloodlines or anything, in fact I'm 100% for race mixing. I consider a black kid who was born and raised in Ireland more Irish than a kid who was born and raised in America regardless of their ethnicity.
Alright, let's clear up a few things here. Firstly I am the person who 'attacked' her, I love the emotive use of language. This bleeding heart blog is so vague and one sided it could not help but garner support. I love the fluffy poor me persona you've put across here.
Lets get this clear, at no point did I tell you that you were stupid. In fact 'stupid' is what you repeatedly called me.
I said that the fact that you declare yourself Irish, while endorsing the confederacy and supporting a Republican party which is hated all over Ireland and the rest of Europe for that matter, means that you are insulting MY homeland. You have never even been to Ireland, so claiming that you are Irish makes about as much sense me claiming to be American. In fact less, because I have actually spent time in America. I pointed out that any Irish who supported the confederacy and fought for slavery instead of abolishment were disowned as turn coats by the very men who fought for our liberation from the British. I included a quote from Daniel O'Connell, The Liberator, somebody who may mean nothing to redshansneck, but was important enough to have the main street in Dublin named after him :" Over the broad Atlantic I pour forth my voice, saying come out of such a land you Irishmen or if you remain and dare countenance the system of slavery that is supported there, we will recognize you as Irishmen no longer".
That was a direct order echoing the sentiments of men who sacrificed everything they had to liberate us from 800 years of persecution. Pro Confederacy Irish shamed our people because while we were just pulling ourselves out of slavery, these cowards actually fought to prolong the slavery of the African, just so their persecuters would consider them white.
The fact is that an 'Irish' person who flies the confederacy flag is pretty much the same as an Irish person who flies the Union Jack, or an African American who celebrates his ancestors role in selling his fellow African into slavery. The whites who made up the majority of the pro slavery confederacy persecuted our people when we first landed on American soil, they called us 'white niggers', and the 'Irish' who then supported our persecuters and sold out on the African slaves turned their back on their greeness to adopt the white of our persecuters. They became Southern, not Irish.
I take exception to my culture being reduced to nothing more than shamrocks and leprechauns, especially by people who highlight their pride in supporting a movement established by white people who declared the Irish and the Africans sub-human.
So-who the hell gave you permission to decide who gets to be who?
I have heritage from all over. As I listed many times before-I am Irish, I am Scottish, I am Native American, I am Italian I am Southern, I am Northern, I am Dutch (Netherlands), according to you im NOT ALLOWED to be who I am.
I think it is time you shutup and left me alone. Your bullshit is so stupid and pathetic, telling me that i'm not allowed to support every part of my heritage. Grow up.
If you want to celebrate the confederacy, the rupublican party, and your Irish heritage all in one neat package, and give the impression that people in Ireland support that kind of bullshit, I'm not saying you can't. I'm merely saying that doing so pisses me off and I will not shut up about it, because I want to make it clear that these are things that make Irish people in Ireland sick to the pit of their stomachs.
