In my business class we have discussed the idea of government regulations of health insurance. My personal opinion is that this can be a good and bad thing. But what do you all think about it? There are many arguments for and against it, here are some things for each argument that we had come up with.
For Government regulations:
- There are many poor families who cannot afford to pay for the rising health costs.
- It could create world wide stability for health care costs.
- It would create more equality for the people.
- More cost efficient.
- Open up more government jobs
Against:
- Taxes would rise
- The national debt would increase greatly
- A loss of choice and freedoms in choosing health care
- Longer lines
- A decrease in quality of treatment
- A decrease in Insurance Co. jobs
- An decrease of privacy from the government
- Increase in stress put on the government
Both of these arguments have their pros and cons, but is there an actual answer? Can we as a nation find a happy medium that will settle all problems? Or will there be an ongoing battle between all of the different groups of people in the United States. Leave your comments, its up for a group discussion =]

On the one hand, I'm all for an increase in equality. It would be fantastic (!) for everyone to be able to just go to a doctor, get the help and treatment that they needed, and not have to stress about the cost.
Nevertheless, I definitely am worried about a decrease in the quality of treatment. Universal, quasi-socialized medicine sounds snazzy in theory, but I'd be afraid that the lack of competition in the medical field would lower standards, you know?
i know...it seems like the idea of equality for everyone in the insurance area would be a great thing, but what people dont understand is that it would decrease the quality of treatment. Without that drive to be the best, only the lowest of standard care would be given because of the regulations and cost management. Im not sure if we can ever find a good balance with todays governement, but we can only hope you know.
