Regarding Valentines Day...

My english teacher made us write poems for Valentines Day. What she had in mind were sentimental sappy poems which I was not about to sit down and write. So instead, this is my Valentines Day Love Poem:

I've concluded inspiration for love doesn't easily exist
In a decade as detestable and delusional as this.
How can you be distracted by flowers and hearts
When people everywhere tear each other apart?
We love our vehicles and our gasoline
So much we can't keep the environment clean.
Let's see who's driving when the trees run out…
SUVs or trees—which will we survive without?
Love for conformity equals prejudice, it leads to genocide.
Other countries love to ease back and let the brutality slide.
They don't realize religion and politics are prejudice too,
And none of it's any better than Hitler and the Jews.
Because killing is killing is killing; it's the same
And I don't believe in killing for love of justice's name.
Yeah, we love that "justice" so much we'll do whatever it takes
To put a criminal behind bars, no matter the stakes.
Police abusing power, in turn abusing our civil rights,
It doesn't make sense, yet against it no one fights.
And we love seeing those criminals pay for what they've done,
But by issuing the death penalty humanity is undone.
And we're also okay with aborting our own children
Yet if someone else did it, it'd be murder or terrorism?
It's all why day after day and season after season,
I pray for love in this world, and love for the right reasons.
Love your neighbor as you, and please love yourself.
Love singing and dancing, love the blessing of good health.
Love laughter and music—rhymes, notes, and beats.
Love diversity, love family, love books and love peace.
Love sunshine days and love simply just being.
Love beauty in nature, there's so much worth seeing.
Love hope for the future and the past's old ways,
But most importantly, just love today.

It's unfortunate that you cant put these things aside for one day. I know it's important, and it feels wrong to just ignore it for a day, but there is nothing you can do about things out of your control. Life is so sweet. Feelings, even painful one like these, are part of the flavor of life. I know this stuff sounds sappy but love, real love, is not just found in sex or candy, even between two souls the way it is normally expressed(at least by decent people). love is in the words that you used to describe what you were feeling you had when you wrote that poem. That strong, pulling sensation you feel right in your chest( I cant tell if its my heart or my soul) when you pour these words onto the page, that is the pain of love. the feeling you get when you think someone you like likes you back thats the wonderfull bubbly side. when that same person doesn't like you the same way, thats the bitter sweet side. they like you, the love of friendship is still there, but not that special connection that lets people share the pain of their emotions with someone. im sorry my fingers are barley moving across this key-board. im just about to pass out on the job so i must go and leave you to pick through my terrible misspellings and horrible punctuation to find some real meaning in these rambleings but i hope you find it.

Valentine's day is just a day heavily promoted by card, candy, and gift companies to make a lot of money...

Yes, Valentines is all for having money in companies pockets and it drains my pockets every year. I think that objects symbolize feelings and sometimes are misinterpreted because it is just jumping on the bandwagon.
