In a RUT

So I just turned 18 in May of this year, so I'm about halfway to 19. I still live with my parents. There are many many times where I sit around the house and think about how I could be living on my own, supporting myself without my parents always watching every little thing that I do. We're in a different country, so I'm still getting used to this huge change. I've met a couple of boys out at the clubs, but then I come home and I get angry bc then I just know that if I want to date them my parents are going to force me to bring whoever home to meet them. It's so irritating. I want to live on my own and meet boys, and date around without bringing them home to meet my parents like I'm going to be getting seroius or something.

I had a decision to either come to Korea or stay in america w/o the support of them. I chose Korea bc my Mom didn't want to let me go, she said that if I were to stay in America, she was going to also. Another factor was that my Moms family lives here in Korea, so yah, I felt horrible. Now my best friend is still in America, sharing a dorm with a girl that smells really bad, and I'm here....in Korea, doing absolutely NOTHING.

I recently got a job, which is cool...but it's as a bagger at a grocery store...and I get paid by tips. My college tuition would be about $8,000...I'm still waiting for my financial aid to get in, and I've applied for like a million onine scholarships and none of them replied. So I decided to take a different path, and print out alot of formal letters and send them into random scholarship addresses...explaining to them my situations and all of that.

I guess I'm just anxious. I won't be starting college until sometime in January 2008. And I'm definitely going to be taking classes in the summer if possible. Any scholarship sites?? I've already been to fastweb.com and I receive emails from them...but I dunno. Can anyone even relate to me?? It's sort of stressful. My Mom says "You should be happy cause it's like your relaxing time!" ...no that's what the weekends are meant for. I like to be productive and stuff...so yah. I need ADVICE from you guys. Obviously we're all looking for some sort of scholarship....but it's rather weird because I'm in a RUT.

I totally can relate.

I'm like 2 weeks away from being 18, and I have matured fast. I'm ready to marry the man of my dreams, who is back in my home town. We just moved several states away. So yea, I just want to move back where all my friends are, but my mom will be sad. Also, my fiancée just got called up... SO he won't even be back home for long if/when I move back... I'm at a community college right now. I'm trying fastweb, but not having much luck with it. I don't know what to tell you, but I'd be more than glad to talk with you about whatever.

Well I'm glad we can relate. I feel like when you're either about to, or right when you turn 18...you do mature alot.
And hopefully things work out w/ you and your fiancee...that's really sweet that you are with somebody..and hopefully he will stay faithful to you. College and money...they don't always balance out.

ALSO

Look at grants. And loans. But grants a lot!

I've tried to look sup loans and stuff, I guess I'm just wondering where the BEST places to apply for that are?
I'm sure you don't have the answer to all my questions though! And I seriously don't blame you at all. It's just sort of stressing the crap outta me!!!

I understand what you're going through. I'm in college right now, but I don't drive and I only live maybe 45 minuted from home, so I don't really feel like I'm on my own yet. Also, I have a $4000/semester tuition bill and I apply to scholarships at Fastweb.com all the time, and I haven't gotten any money from them so far. I guess you just have to shop around. It's a good idea that you are sending letters. You should send it to organizations in the community. If you can convince them that you need the money, I am sure that they will more than likely help you.
Parents have a tough time letting go, even thought they tell us they can't wait to get rid of us. And family ties are very important. So don't take it for granted too much. Good Luck and keep your head up.

Dang, yah I don't wanna give up on fastweb....but it just seems like I'm not having any luck @ all with them. I went to my colleges site and they had like 5 or 6 different scholarships that i could apply for. I dunno, hmmm.

Is there no way that you can go to school in Korea? It must be so hard being separated from your friends and just the general culture you grew up with. But maybe if you were able to go away to school, but still be in Korea with your mom it would be a comprimise? Best of luck to you.
