Now do not take this the wrong way, I love people from every single culture, race, religion, ect...I AM NOT RACIST! But some things tend to anger me when it comes to racial differences, or at least the way some people view them. I understand that black people had it incredibly hard, in the PAST. I understand that they were treated horribly and had every right to hate white people and pull themselves away from they. However, I also understand that in todays society people from every race are accepted into society as equal beings. There are no more slaves, no more black/white schools or bus discriminations. But a lot of strong black groups still perform daily as if this is still continuously occurring. Every february we have black history month, which I have absolutely no problem with. I like to learn about different cultures and their past and present day accomplishments. However, I have never seen a white history month. Why is this? Now hold on, I know a lot of you will protest that every day is part of a white history month, but I definitely disagree. Maybe 20 or 30 years ago it was, but not today. In every single history, english, science or whatever other class I have taken, I have learned my fair share about influencial people from other culture outside my own (caucasion apparently). I have learned about just as many black scientists, latino explores, philipino artists ect. ect... as I have about white ones. So no, you may not say that every day is party of white history because it is not. I also see TV networks like BET, black entertainment television, but yet again there is no White Entertainment Television. On MTV, VH1, and other popular networks there is no racial bias. There is an equal share of each race on them every single day. So why no WET? I dont get it. Clubs, organizations, scholarships, ect...just for being black. None for being white, I mean it would be being racist right? Wrong. Once again I am not racist, I have tons of friends from various races. I just do not understand this concept. We are special too, we are all supposed to be equal. Stop saying that we segregate you from us, those days are over. Blacks are seperating themselves from the whites. Thank you.

is the TRUTH. The Civil Rights Movement was ONLY 50 years ago. FIFTY YEARS AGO!!! People's minds do not change in 50 years. These people with their minds that do not change have the right to breed. These people with their minds that do not change pass their minds to their children. Racism, prejudice, and discrimination STILL EXIST!!! Not because I WANT them to exist, but because they DO. We can change laws all we want to, and we can fuse rock and rap, and we can have friends from every color of the rainbow, but we CANNOT change minds. Many people's minds HAVE NOT CHANGED. Do you hear me? I'll say it louder: MANY PEOPLE'S MINDS HAVE NOT CHANGED!!! I know this from personal experience unfortunately. And I'm not just talking about "white people", but all of us. Yes we have progressed (a suitable word for this site), BUT we still have quite a way to go. Everyone is NOT accepted as equal-take a look at the LGBT movement, the way we treat each other. By law things may look fair, but on the social front, things are often far from it. If you are foolish enough to believe that everyone's holding hands and singing Kumbaya, you need a wake up call-as a matter of fact you need three.
To me, fifty years was a very long time ago. I never said that "these people" do not have the right to breed. They are human beings, of course they do! we are supposed to be EQUAL so maybe if everyone treated themselves as an equal, everyone would give the same respect back towards them. I realize that racism still exists, but it is not a nation-wide thing. Granted, you see it around anywhere you go but now-a-days, people are very accepting. And if they are not, if they still live in the past then THEY need to get their act together and get out from under the rock from where they live. Im sorry that you have had to go through personal experiences like this. But in my school over half the population is black and the other cultures are discriminated against every day. So its not just blacks that have it hard, it depends where you are and who you talk to. So im very sorry if you took this as an insult because it was not meant in that sense, it was written late at night. But i still stand by my principle that if ALL cultures attempt to fuse themselves together instead of pushing themselves out, we all would live in a better world.
"To me, fifty years was a very long time ago."
I never said 50 years WASN'T a long time ago-that's precisely the point. 50 years WASN'T a long time ago and we still have a LOT that needs to be done.
"I never said that "these people" do not have the right to breed."
I never said that YOU said that.
"I realize that racism still exists, but it is not a nation-wide thing."
And how exactly would you know that? Done any studies lately? You think racism only exists in the south now? Racism has never only existed in the south. It might be worse down there, but racism is most definitely a nationwide issue.
"But in my school over half the population is black and the other cultures are discriminated against every day. So its not just blacks that have it hard, it depends where you are and who you talk to."
In my school half the population is black too. That is not what this is about. Number one, I never once said, here or anywhere else, that blacks have it the hardest out of everyone, boo hoo boo hoo. What I said was, everything is not as honkey dorey as you would like to believe.
We still do need to work a lot, I agree.
NO I havent done any studies lately...have you? I never said that racism lies in the south, it is wherever you go. What i meant was that it is not instilled in every person across the nation.
I do not believe everything is perfect, we have a great amount of problems in this world. I think that coming together, instead of trying to seperate ourselves, would better the country.
"I havent done any studies lately...have you?"
No, and I never said I did. Racism has never lied in EVERY single person. I think that coming together can happen while still "separating" ourselves. Read my blog "Erase the Rainbow".
Please...would someone out there name me the last time a white man got lynched for looking too long at a black woman?
When was the last time a white man was told he couldn't serve in the military as anything but a cook because whites don't see well after dark?
When was it that a white man was ever denied the right to vote because of the color of his skin?
NEVER
Best Regards
Chuckhoek
I don't know what world in which you live, but people are still racist. It's just not government sanctioned anymore.
Denken. Nicht lesen.
blacks are not treated equally today.
they are discriminated against in so many ways its crazy if you just opened your eyes or maybe read true history (of yesterday and TODAY(is reading about today considered history? haha, guess not, but you get the point). For the longest time I thought there was no more discrimination, in this "wonderful" country, as you put it other posts, but i was in serious denial. I didn't want to see it. So why don't you see it?
Hard work means nothing if some people have privileges above others. Just because you see a couple of channels for black people doesn't mean that the country is integrated and "they" have too many channels for an integrated population. sorry that a few leading roles for black people is too much for you. too much time spent on their history? one month a year. If you know as much about other cultures from your history class as you do of American history, then what is the 16th of September celebrated for in Mexico? And please tell me what Filipino scientist you learned of in your class because I never got that far. I would give you statistics on things or testimonials, but if you really cared you would have looked them up a while ago.
If your colored group of friends agree with you...then i guess they're still in denial like i was. I'm not even going to address all the points you made. I'm really sad and angry right now.
You're welcome?
My eyes are very OPEN and observant thank you. I realize that there is still plenty of discrimination in this country and of course i do not think that it is a good thing, its rediculous!
In some places people have priliges above others, but I see a great amount of black CEOs and superstars.
Thats not even what this is about, they deserve everything every other culture does.
You know what? I never said i know everything about history. and maybe i dont really care what the 16th of september is for mexico. i live in the united states. i do not need testemonials, it is MY opinion, deal with it.
A previous comment mentioned that the Civil Rights Movement was only 50 years ago. And i agree that is takes a long time to break down deeply rooted racial divisions.
One should consider that even though blacks were given the right to vote with the ratification of the 15th Amendment, they would be systematically denied the ballot for another 100 years. Even after the 14th amendment guaranteed equal protection, it would take 100 years before black children could go to school with whites in the south.
Thank you for being so calm about your reaction, there is no need to freak out about ones opinion, you can simply state yours.
Thank you for your information, I do realize that it was very hard for many people in the past. However, I do believe that life is a great deal better today.
Why are you complaining? Read a history book and then post. Find out why things are like that then post. I'm not saying that its right but you know you're just going to sit there saying how unfair things are, at least thats what it seems like. Do something, go out and do something...geez.

unreasoning prejudice and panic-making fear."

Well I agree with you on everyone being equal. I am not racist either. Although neither you nor I are racists racism still exists in the 21st century!
I am just going to attempt a few of your questions;
We have black history month so that black people can know where they come from. We have it so that black people will not feel inferior and think they are worthless. We have it so that black people may learn that a black person did this or a black person did that. I believe black people deserve a black history month. This country was built by blacks! The slaves didn't come over here and just sit down. The worked and worked and they were treated horribly if they didn't work. Sure there were some good slave owners and whatnot but there were more bad ones than good ones. Your school may celebrate black history month but mine just started recognizing it this year.
BET is not racially biased. It is entertainment for blacks. It is a hip-hop channel. And I am almost sure more blacks that like hip-hop than whites. If you want to watch BET that's your business and if you don't then don't. I'm sorry but what shows would you put on WET that isn't on every other channel?
You are right there are scholarships just for blacks. Blacks deserve more of the opportunity to attend college because they were not allowed in the past. So they try to make it a whole lot easier for them to go to college. But aren't there scholarships for you out there as well as me? They may not be specifically for whites but they are there. Right?
You just should just think about those things.
Exactly!!! Finally, someone aside from me and a few of my friends who think the same way! We have this conversation everyday at lunch, and here very soon, I will be posting a blog about this same subject. We often wonder the same thing about holidays and scholarships. I am not a racist person either, but there some things that definely piss me off. I completely agree with you on this subject.
