Did you know that every hour someone in America dies in a car accident as a result of an unbuckled seatbelt? Whether or not you did, I would hope that you already know the importance of buckling your seatbelt. So why is it that people don't buckle up? It only takes a second to do it. It's not a difficult thing to do. And yet people continue to ride without their seatbelt fastened. How guilty would you feel if you knew that you not buckling YOUR seatbelt caused another person to die? Studies have shown that 70% of the time that the driver of a vehicle doesn't buckle their seatbelt that a child passenger will not either. Although it's obvious that people need to learn to better take care of themselves, they also have to realize that their irresponsible decisions can negatively affect other people as well.
Recently the government has been cracking down on people for not fastening their seatbelt, which will hopefully be an incentive for people to buckle up. You'd think that not dying would be enough of an incentive alone though wouldn't you? Wouldn't it be great if everyone would buckle up? Even if the amount of Americans who buckle up increased only to 90% over 5000 deaths would be prevent each year, in addition to the several injuries that would be prevented.
