Chapter Two: What the Media is.

Media (n) - 1. Data 2. A form of communication through television, radio, paper, newspaper, magazine, photographs, film, animation etc.

We don't remember the good old times when there were only three channels available on a television. Or televisions without remote controls where we have to get out of our comfortable chair to change a channel. We don't really remember when there was black and white TV or CRT boxy television sets.

Today there is HD-TV, LCD and Plasma screens. There is satellite TV,TIVo, Comcast, OptimumOnline, FIOs with over 1000 channels. And there is more...videogames, computers, and the internet.

The internet where we are sucked into a world of a game of truth or dare and lies.

What we don't realize is that we are distracted by all the bulls*** that is viewing in front of our eyes. The television with show after show, state news that feeds us only what our next door neighbor stole from the dollar store and not what the government is spending form our federal taxes. Sure we can google that information: but who would do that?

It is not about the information. It is not about the important things in life. It is about entertainment. It is about the amount of views per show that keeps the networks running.
Sure we miss out on what happens to the world or the starving children of the world. We all know Bono is taking care of that all by himself. What about the environment. We all know Orlando Bloom goes green. What about AIDs? Oh the government is creating a cure.

Wrong. Take time to turn off your radio, television, internet, computer, ipod, cellphone and take away the magazines and photographs. And take a look outside and forget everything that happens on TV or when the next episode of Heroes is on. Realize what is going on outside of the house.

I agree to an extent. People are much to reliant on television, the internet, and other such technology. That can't be denied. It's brought about an isolated way of life. However, I don't think anyone can disagree that these same technologies are doing their part in the world. I know that e-mail and the internet present an efficient way to group together events such as antiwar rallies. And if you kow where to go, you can find out news that would be a long time coming if you just stepped outside and waited for it to get to you by word of mouth.

'But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked. 'Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: 'We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad.'
