A movie from the Disney Channel that was meant to be for children around the ages of 8-14 seems to have become a world renowned movie practically overnight. What is this movie you ask? It's name is High School Musical and it has become such a big hit that they are planning to film a sequel in March with a debut time set for this summer.
The movie starts out with hot shot basketball playing jock Troy Bolton and brainy Gabriella Montez meeting while singing kareoke at a new year's eve party while on vacation. After returning to school, Troy finds that Gabriella is a new girl at his school. When word gets out that the two are auditioning for their school musical, the school gets turned upside down complete with social cliques intermixing and many confessions of members of the different cliques about their secret passions.
The movie has many unforgetable musical numbers that are sure of getting stuck in your head including Get Cha' Head in the Game, We're all in this Together, and the Latin style Bop to the Top. The soundtrack to High School Musical has sold thousands of copies and has been at the top of the music charts. The success of High School Musical shows that students these days will watch anything that they can relate to.
There is talk of remaking the movie with actors that speak other languages so that other countries can have High School Musical in thier own language. There have been musical artists who have translated the songs from the movie and recorded them in other languages including Spanish and French. High School Musical, a little known movie before debuting on the Disney Channel in January 2006, is now household name among many preteens, young teens, parents, and even the occasional high school and college student who has younger siblings.
