Dirty Sex: $1 or Best Offer

Truth: Sex sells.
Think about it. Popular music is about sex. TV shows and movies always have a steamy sex plot behind it; even if the setting isn't particularly romantic (i.e. crime scenes and hospitals). Advertisements on billboards or commercials always have some sex appeal incorporated so people will buy what they're selling.
I love listening to the radio on the way to work or to one of my friends' houses, but I hate how most of the songs are really dirty. The most popular songs tend to be about hookers, strippers, or having sex. In my opinion, these songs tend to be the most popular because they have the best beat and are catchy.
Recently the song “I Kissed A Girl” by Katy Perry came out; personally, I don't like the song, but already know most of the words. Before hearing this song, I had never heard about this artist before. Most new singers that I hear on the radio come out with a song about sex. It's disgusting that this girl with become famous, because she sings about her experiment with homosexuality. For others, they'll become popular because they described sex in the most explicit way without having to edit it for the radio.
Music has an effect on us; it can be calming, get you going, make you happy, make you sad, etc. So what kind of effect does sex in music have on us?
I think that it has a negative effect and could lead to teens having sex. I'm not saying that after listening to one song that you're going to run out and have sex with the first person you see; it's more of a long term effect. Songs with sex create a picture in our mind of what it's like; it sounds perfect. But in reality, one has to think about the consequences. It allows teens to fantasize about picking up anyone they want and getting in bed with them. In songs, there is no indication of responsibility; it's all about one night stands. In the end, the lyrics are disrespectful to woman, making them sexual objects to men.
What do we do? We support the artists and buy their CDs. We fantasize doing just what the artist says they do in the song. Although I don't think any of can relate to being a stripper, there are songs constantly playing about a sexy stripper seducing a man and he wants to get in bed with her. Maybe this is the kind of mind set that gets teens seriously thinking about sex. We have the desire to have sex anyway, but we get a stronger feeling that we should after listening to the songs. Let me give an example:
I love watching chick flix. I love the romantic comedies or the sad romantic stories. They portray the sweetest fantasies about love. While watching the movie, I start to want a relationship like that (since I'm single). Once the movie is over, no matter how much I like it, I'm a little depressed. I think, “Why can't I be like them?” or “I want a boyfriend.” I think that this could apply to music too. Once we get connected with the song we have a stronger desire to do what the artists are singing about.
We constantly listen to it. We watch the music videos. We sing the songs. Why not do it?

And teens have a LOT of disposable income, so of course people sell sex and teens buy it.

The whole "Music make teens want to have sex argument" has been around since before the Charleston became popular. I think it's kind of a chicken or the egg question. And I think, in this case, it's the chicken.

I thought "I Kissed a Girl" was an old song by Jill Sobule. Is it a different song all together or was it redone?

Besides that, I have also noticed the dramatic increase in sexual references in the media over the past 20 years. Even children's movies now have adult innuendos throughout. I'm not single now, but when I was it was difficult to watch tv, movies, or listen to music and constantly be reminded of the sex that everyone else in the world seemed to be getting except me. There were times I felt like just going out to the bar to pick up a one-night stand, but I never did only because I was afraid of ending up with a psycho.

In my case I wanted the sex because I was missing being in a relationship as I have never been very good at being single. When I was a lot younger, I could listen to and watch sexual references and not really give it a second thought....when I was really young it was because I just wasn't very experienced and then because I wasn't really comfortable with sex yet. With this in mind, it would be difficult to say whether the prevalence of sex in the media leads to more kids participating in sexual acts at a younger age or not. If the media IS that big of an impact, maybe more pictures of genitals ridden with STDs need to be plastered all over high schools to scare the shit out of anyone "sleeping around."

Of course guys hit their sexual peak in high school, so they want it all the time then. I'm just hitting my sexual peak now so I want it all the time (I know I'm pathetic, but I'm not afraid to admit it!)

the ship my dad was on before he retired from the NAVY, used to post pictures of STD ridden genitalia in the bathrooms before the hit port. to make sure the sailors either wrapped their stuff, or avoided the whore houses completely.

And it kinda sucks, IMHO. The Jill Sobule song was at least catchy. I liked that one. This one pretty much holds zero appeal to me musically or lyrically.

I just heard the new version of the song tonight. To me, it sounded like a big cry for attention. She didn't sound genuine to me.
