MySpace is GREAT!

Today in society, we are all well aware of how great technology has become. We can not only use our cellphones, but we can use the internet more and more. Myspace for instance is great for communication. I love the concept of it all. Though it does have its downsides, I think it is a great tool that we can all use to keep in touch with people. It lets us reaffirm that we are not alone. That we have friends and have the ability to keep these friends for years to come. Well... as long as you keep those comments and messages coming, of course.

So there is the downside to MySpace. Yes, kids can open up an account. Yes, they can get stalked, bullied, harrassed, etc. Anything horrifically possible can happen on MySpace. But that really isn't MySpace's fault. In fact, it isn't even the kids' fault. If we don't want bad things to happen to kids who are on MySpace, then don't give them the tools to go on it. It's as simple as that.

I use Myspace. I use it to keep in touch with old friends. I've been using it since 2004, and still have the same account since. I love it. I love being able to talk to not-so-close friends at my convenience through the use of "comments" and "messages." I call my close friends of course. I don't need MySpace to talk to them, though I still have them on my top 8. We hang out in real life. But the ones I rarely see or live far away from me, I keep in touch via MySpace. Also, I use MySpace to stay in touch with family who live all the way in the Phillipines. What better way to save the cost of making an international call, then to use MySpace? I love it. Just love it. :)

Some kids will get on Myspace (or whatever) whether or not they are given the "tools". The solution imo is not banning Myspace, it's educating kids on being safe, keeping an eye on what they're doing, and making sure they're comfortable talking to you if anything inappropriate happens.
