So I've heard a lot about the Jena 6 thing. I found an article about it on Stumbleupon a few months back, and have been steadily following the case since.
I'm not picking sides on this, because each side has a valid point. On one hand, it does seem like Jena, Louisiana is a backwards, racist town. For instance, when the white students hung nooses on the "White Tree" in response to the black students sitting under it, they were given light warnings and the incident was treated as a joke. That's wrong, in my opinion. Hanging a noose is a death threat, and shouldn't be treated so lightly.
One complaint is Bell being tried as an adult, by an all-white jury. I don't think he should have been tried as an adult. I don't think his tennis shoes count as deadly weapons either. What some don't know, though, is the reason he had an all-white jury is that none of the black people summoned for jury duty actually showed up.
So where will this lead? Is it really the "Civil Rights Movement of the 21st Century"?
I don't know. We'll have to see.
Also, cool. David Bowie donated $10,000 to the Jena 6 Legal Defense fund. I always knew I liked him.
PS: My name is Korin. Hi there, people.
