I don't know if anybody notices this, but there hasn't been a new Tropical Storm or Hurricane since Alberto. Part of the reason why is that even though there are thunderstorms that form off the western coast of Africa, there's a dome of high pressure that makes them evaporate (or is dust from the Sahara Desert?).
Because of this, I think it figures that there hasn't been a new Tropical Storm or Hurricane since Alberto because I think that people who didn't prepare before Alberto started preparing after Alberto hit and moved far away; furthermore, tropical moisture moved North to the East coast of the U.S., which caused the East coast flooding.
So far, there hasn't been a new Tropical Storm or Hurricane

There have been hurricanes since Alberto (we're up to Daniel right now), but they've taken a bit of a back seat in the news given the IMMINENT DESTRUCTION OF THE PLANET!

Actually, Tropical Storm Daniel is in the Pacific Ocean. They have a set of storm names for the Atlantic and a set for the Eastern Pacific so that they don't run out so soon and to make it easier to tell how many have been in each ocean. We haven't really seen a whole lot of action in the Atlantic yet this season storm wise even though there have been a lot of storms down around Florida. If you want, I have two blogs, one for each ocean that lists all of the names of the storms for this year along with the ones that have occured or are occuring right now highlighted with the exception of Daniel which I will be changing momentarily.
