The Mommy Workout

Today I was brave. I took my twin 2 year olds to Borders to get a book I'm interested in. I walked into the store holding their arms with their items of importance in hand, a sippy cup and their new Dora phone that I got them. I walk to the customer service desk and ask them to assist me since I don't have any free hands. It is hard to grab anything while trying to hold on to explorative toddlers, trying to keep the contents of your purse falling out, making sure your shirt doesn't magically hike its way up past your belly button and making sure not to steer anyone into a display. It gets quite complicated. The sales associate asks what book I'm looking for, and that's when she makes a run for it.  My daughter that is! I lose my grip on her hand while trying to tell the associate my list of 2 books.  Its like a prisoner after they've been released from prison. She's running up and down the aisles, giggling with excitement at the new game she is playing with mommy.  Lets see how long it takes mommy to catch up with me...which I know is what she was thinking.  So I finally grab ahold of her, as she almost runs into a display. Phew, that was a close one.  We walk back to the counter and the guy tells me that they only have 1 of the 2 books I want in stock.  So, off we go to the computer section to get my book. We get there and start looking. I foolishly let go of my girls hands to try and find the book faster. This leads to toddler chaos, as they start picking up books off the shelves and putting them on the floor. I thank God that they didn't start ripping the pages. After they get bored of that, and the guy still hasn't found the book, they run off. Of course they go in opposite directions... that's what twins do. So, I try and find them, yelling their names in an effort to at least temporarily distract them, so that I can catch up with them.  Finally I spot one of my girls in the children's books area.  Now normally, that wouldn't be that bad, except there are 2 of them and they KNOW how to make a mess! After spotting the first twin, I go to find the 2nd, who is taking more books off of the shelves. I run around trying to catch up with her (she's playing that game again). We walk back over to the section of books, that need to be searched to find the one I'm looking for and the guy finally finds the book. I try and herd my 2 munchkins to where I can keep an eye on them. I ask the guy to bring the book up to the front, in an effort to reduce the tornado effect that my children have on stores, homes, and pretty much any place that has anything near their height. I finally am tired of them dropping sippy cups, phones and whatever else they have managed to snag with them from the car. I carried 2 25plus pound girls up to the front of the store. I try and put them on the counter, but they acted like I was going to chop off their feet and kept saying No sit! I put them down on the ground while I quickly whip out my debit card and my rewards card. Meanwhile my two tornadoes have found the candy that Borders convienently places within the reach of small children. I'm running back and forth from one side of the register to the other, stopping inbetween to pay for my purhcase and to keep products that haven't been paid for from leaving the store. Finally I'm able to grab my purse, my new book, and each of the twins hands. We are out the door. I steer them towards my car and get them buckled in.  Finally my workout is over!
