Punishing Palestinians for practicing democracy

I have one very important question to ask: Why do we (Western governments), punish innocent Palestinians after they used- at our request- democratic principles to elect their current government?  Did we not think that Hammas would be a possibility? Fatah has shown through the years that they are incapable of looking after the welfare of the Palestinian people, without corruption.  It is not a suprise that the people, now given a democratic means to elect their government, decided on an alternate party.  Equally contemptable, is the fact that now that the dust has cleared, the US, Europe and the Russian federation have pulled all aid to Palestine off the table because like Israel, they look at Hammas as a terrorist organization. This does nothing but cause increased hardship for innocent Palestinians in the occupied territories, and further inflames hatred in the Arab world against the West.

As i write this blog, I am in the process of organizing medical relief to Palestinians in the occupied territories. I work in a busy emergency room, and have the opportunity to gather discarded or unused medical supplies that might be critical to doctors and other healthcare providers in Palestine. I am able to do this because  there are many resources available to me locally here in Southeastern Michigan (we have one of the largest Middle-Eastern communities outside the Arab world). I feel it necessary to donate my time because i feel passionately about the cause. While the world pays attention to other things, Palestinians are dying everyday from Israeli incursions, rocket attacks, road blocks and aid stoppage. This is unfair, and i would like to lend a hand.
