During the last election period, there was alot of talk about banning abortion or requiring parental consent for abortion (if under 18). Personally, I think that both of these attempts to decrease abortion are wrong.
In my opinion, banning abortion is the equivalent of banning someone from choosing if they want vanilla or chocolate ice cream. In saying this, I mean that the banning of abortion would be like taking away a person's personal choice. Abortion is a personal choice and it is no one's business what the parents choose to do. I am faced with the discussion very often and I feel that I should have empathy on what I am talking about. If I were in the situation, I would decide to have an abortion. I am a very successful student and I feel that if I brought a child into the world it would only bring a cease to my future. I would have to, most likely, get a job and take care of my child. In my own opinion, I feel that anyone who has had a child in their teenage years is a statistic and will probably not succeed in life.
Secondly, requiring parental consent for abortion can sometimes contradict the entire reason for having an abortion. From my knowledge, many girls have many reasons for getting an abortion but one of the biggest reasons is not disappointing their parents. Like myself, many girls are their parents prized possessions and it would completely destroy their parents to know that their "baby girl" has gone off and gotten pregnant.
In conclusion, abortion is nothing but a choice. It is the parent's (of the child) decision what to do about the baby. I believe in not ruining one's future, and overall life, for someone else, including an unwanted child.
A person should not be denied the right to do what they want with their body. If a woman should want to have an abortion, so be it. It is her chioce, her body, and her life. Not no one else's. No one should have the right to tell someone else that they can not do something because they are against it. Society is so black and white. Hello people! Step into the grey area.
Do you people even realize what an abortion is? So many people believe that there can't possibly be a life in there, but at even a very young stage in the developing fetus there is a heart beat. I have been reading may articles on abortion and there is several failed attempts in aborting that the baby's have actually survived! One in particular is Gianna Jessen her mother was also a young teenager and choice to abort the doctor gave her the saline injection, but by the grace of God Gianna lived! Gianna is suffering from a disorder from the abortion. before I became Educated in abortion I proably would of had an abortion if needed but I can't see myself doing it now. I would try to help any girl make the right choice in not having an abortion. Planned Parent Hood tells girls when they go in that what they are doing is there choice and that there is not a baby but just a blob of tissue. (what a LIE) they want you to think that because you might change your mind if you did know there was a baby. I encourage anybody that disagrees with me to look at the facts on the web there are thousands of websites out there even on articles about the ones who survived. and if you have any over comments I would love to hear them!
While I am also pro-choice, I disagree with your reasoning. Choosing whether or not to have an abortion is not like choosing what kind of ice cream you'll eat today. It's more like choosing whether or not to pull your parent off the ventilator that keeps them alive. It's a rather serious choice, and there is no universal right or wrong choice. It's different in each case.
Furthermore, plenty of your 'choices' are against the law. Namely your choice to smoke marijuana or crack/cocaine. Or your choice to rob a bank. So, I don't think your reasoning really stands up, sorry.

And with the lovely technology we have today any one of those cells could be used to create a new human being. So congrats you've succesfully killed more potential children since your birth than the number of people that currently occupy the planet.

That is the most selfish and ignorant thing I have ever heard. Do you have any idea how badly some people want children, and can't afford to get medical help, or ever afford to adopt.. They just go their whole lives with this incredible desire and yearning to have a child, and never get the opportunity... And you're saying that because you are too successful, a child would only hinder your future? AND you go as far as to judge others by saying that teenagers who have children will never be successful? That is an awful thing to say. I can understand not wanting to have a child. I personally am getting married next year and dont want children for a long time.. Maybe even never. But I would not get an abortion for such a selfish reason.. I would not get an abortion at all, but that's just my personal opinion.

abortion is murder all the way around. don't compare it to choosing ice cream because they're not the same. what people have to get is that when God created man, he didn't want to kill what he made. the problem is there are people who are willing to kill innocent life and not enough to help both mother and child. it is easy to have an abortion, but at what price? abortions not only hurts the child, it kills the mother as well, literally and metaphorically. if you read about the damages abortions causes to men, women and children, you'll be singing another tune. it's horrifying to think that people don't care. how could we care about the homeless when we don't care about a little life. everyone needs to be loved. especially the little angels. no matter what the circumstances, if you trust, believe and have faith in God, he can take you through any storm.

I think what most people forget in the Abortion debate, is that abortion was made legal in 1973. So there is no question if a woman has a choice because legally she does.

Standing up for pro choice doesn't mean that you think abortion is a wonderful, thing that everyone should do. You're standing up for the freedom of choice. Abortion can actually save a child from a life of a abuse from parents that aren't ready to support a child. What YOU are saying sounds more selfish. Bring a child into the world is more important then the well-being of the child? Its not like you people "so against abortion" will do anything but preach about it while you're sitting on your couch watching t.v or browsing on you're computer. If you care SO much about not having abortions, why don't you go and adpot a child that has no mother, because she decided not to have an abortion? Why don't you go and adopt a baby addicted to cocaine because a mother decided not to have an abortion?
