One of our advisors at Cornish College of the Arts (Seattle WA) has compiled a mix she calls "Peace and Conflict", here are the tracks she put on disc one:
1. "Dear Mr. President" -- Pink
2. "What's Going On?" -- Marvin Gaye
3. "Jacob's Ladder" -- Chumbawamba
4. "Wake Me Up When September Ends" -- GreenDay
5. "Mercy Now" -- Mary Gauthier
6. "Get Up, Stand Up" -- Bob Marley
7. "Bomb the World" -- Spearhead
8. "Worldwide Suicide" -- Pearl Jam
9. "One" -- U2 & Mary J. Blige (the performance that made everyone on the planet cry)
10. "Twenty" -- Robert Cray
11. "Who Are These People?" -- Burt Bacharach & Elvis Costello (explicit version not available on the album)
12. "War" -- Edwin Starr
13. "Unemployed" -- Pearl Jam
14. "Not Ready to Make Nice" -- Dixie Chicks
15. "Ohio" -- Neil Young
Part of the reason she made this mix is because it seems like this summer protest music is going to explode and become as prevalent as it was in the 60s, and she wanted a mix of old and new songs to get her in the mood for more protest music. In my own mix, I would add the following:
*"The Hand that Feeds" -- Nine Inch Nails
*"21st Century Kid" -- Jamie Cullum
*"Oh God" -- Jamie Cullum
*"Who's Gonna Save Us?" -- The Living End
*"Still" -- Alanis Morrisette
*"Let's Face It" -- The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
*"Time and a Word" -- Yes
*"VietNow" -- Rage Against The Machine
*"Screaming At The Wailing Wall" -- Flogging Molly
*"I'm Afraid of Americans" -- David Bowie (Reznor mix, of course)
And those are just a few of what else belongs on this great protest music compilation.
What would you add?
