Christians and Christmas.

I went up to a town gathering with Christmas carols and all.  At the end Santa arrived and they lit up all the Christmas lights in town.  It was kind of nice but something dawned on me.

The big argument ever since I was little is that Christmas is to celebrate Jesus’s birthday not about old Saint Nick.  With this being the case why was there a Christian rock group singing all the songs at the gathering but yet supporting Santa Clause.  It is pretty much saying that Santa Clause is the point of Christmas.  It is making the kids believe that Christmas is not about Jesus or anything.  That was kind of odd in my eyes.

But I like that because I do not believe in religion.  I see kids eyes brighten when you talk about Santa Clause and I see their eyes get gloomy and tiresome when you mention Jesus and his birthday (much like in Sunday school).

In my eyes Christmas is just about Santa Clause and that is it.  It is the time of giving and gathering with the family and spending time together.  It’s about kids waking you up at 8 am to open up their presents.

Christmas IS about Santa, and gifts, love, friendship..you get it. It isn't about religion, Jesus wasn't even born in December (was he ever born...), anyone that thinks x-mas is about religion needs to examine what they are saying.

Some people's beliefs are that Christmas IS about Jesus. As far as a "Christian" Rock Group singing about Santa, I can't speak for them. But to lump ALL Christians together because of that is wrong.

There are people whos beliefs are that Christmas IS about Jesus and to the person who said it wasn't about religion shouldn't speak for everyone. You can express that, that's your belief, but don't speak for everyone.

Also if you look into the history of Santa Clause, you will see that it is deeply rooted in the Christian faith. BEFORE you jump all over this, check into it.

Santa Clause is based off of Saint Nick who lived in Turkey. He was wealthy and used his money to help out others. There is no religious belief amongst that. Just because he had a warm heart and cared about others well being does not mean anything religious. Believe it or not but athiest can/are the same way.

Saint Nick was a Christian.

Thats the only religious thing. It has nothing to do with religion. Like I said that quality he shared is in athiest too. Good hearted people are not always Christians. Christians (at least the ones I know) need to realize that there are more then just Christians out there and just because we do not believe in it does not make us fools. We ourselves think that Christians are fools for believeing in that hoax.

I never said or implied that you are a fool in any of my posts. I respect your right to believe what you believe I just pointed out that Saint Nick was a Christian, that's all. You have every right to your beliefs and you have the right to not be harrassed for them.

Again, I NEVER SAID or IMPLIED you were a fool because you did not share my beliefs. You however, in you last post, SAID, VERY CLEARLY, that I am a fool for believing what I believe. How hipocritical is that?

You complain and ask not to be judged, yet you can do the judging and name calling.

It was not directed towards you. This world revolves around the sun not you. It was a generalized statement that most people like me think about Christians. Until I say YOU ARE A FOOL it is not directed towards you.

Actually if you were directing it towards Christians, then you were directing it towards me.

No I didn't. That is like saying anything bad about whites, males, Native Americans, Dutch, German, English, college student, American, black haired, brown eyed, or redneck would be directing it towards me. Its a generalization. Take it personal if you want but it really is not.

It bears the significance of celebrating and rememring the birth of Jesus Christ
but the tradition has been distorted and now it's become a national holiday for giving presents and praising Santa Clause. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with expressing love and giving presents to the beloved and as well as the needy, but people, we should remember Christmas was first made to be about Jesus and not about anyone else. It should be warming people's hearts just to think that Jesus was born into this world to save the world.

If there was no Jesus, there wouldn't be a christmas.
